According to a VNA correspondent in Moscow, the conference discussed the development of inter-parliamentary dialogue in the Eurasian space, which is home to three-quarters of the world's population and two-thirds of global trade turnover, in order to expand multi-faceted cooperation in the political, economic, legal and humanitarian fields, as well as environmental protection, strengthening peace and stability in the region, combating extremism and developing inter-parliamentary dialogue.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Chairman of the State Duma (Lower House) of Russia, Sergey Naryshkin, emphasized that the theme of the conference is to discuss the current stage of globalization, creating a multilateral international system in which power centers do not oppose each other but cooperate with each other.

Mr. Naryshkin also read a welcome message from Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which he said that establishing a multilateral dialogue between the countries of Eurasia - the largest continent on the planet - is an extremely important beginning.

The conference also heard a video recording of UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon's speech, saying that parliaments of Eurasian countries have an important role in dialogue, resolving long-standing conflicts and preventing new wars.

Next, each delegation was given 10 minutes to deliver their speeches. In the speech of the Philippines, Vice President of the National Assembly, Mr. Giorgidi Aggabao, mentioned the territorial dispute in the East Sea.

Mr. Aggabao said that this dispute needs to be resolved by peaceful means, in accordance with international law, to maintain stability in the region.

In Vietnam's speech, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Uong Chu Luu affirmed: "This event helps us clearly see the increasingly positive role of parliamentary diplomacy in international political life. With the vision of building a peaceful, cooperative and prosperous Asia-Europe region, we will exchange measures to promote Asia-Europe connectivity, create an equal and developed society, share values and opportunities for all people, and ensure rights and freedoms for all people according to the principles set out in the United Nations Charter."

Vice President Uong Chu Luu also proposed five measures to expand and deepen Asia-Europe cooperation to develop prosperity and address issues of common concern to the two continents.

The Meeting of Speakers of the Eurasian Parliaments was held at the initiative of Chairman of the State Duma of Russia Sergey Naryshkin and Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Chung Eui Hwa.

The second conference is scheduled to take place in Seoul in 2017./
