Vietnam establishes diplomatic relations with Swaziland.
On May 21, at the headquarters of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations in New York (USA), Vietnam and the Kingdom of Swaziland signed an agreement to establish diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level.
Speaking to the press after signing the agreement, Mr. Le Hoai Trung, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the UN, on behalf of the Government of Vietnam, and Mr. Zwelethu Mnisi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Head of the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Swaziland to the UN, on behalf of the Government of the Kingdom of Swaziland, highly appreciated this very significant event in bilateral relations.
Both leaders expressed hope that the two countries would strengthen and develop a mutually beneficial relationship, while making a positive contribution to consolidating peace and security in Asia, Africa, and the world at large.
Both sides agreed to exchange diplomatic representatives at the ambassadorial level and to apply the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations in their bilateral diplomatic relations.
Immediately after the signing ceremony, the text of the agreement was sent to the UN Secretary-General for circulation as an official UN document and notification to all member states of the organization.
The Kingdom of Swaziland is located in Southern Africa, bordering Mozambique and South Africa. Swaziland was founded in the 1830s and became a British colony in 1906.
Swaziland gained independence on September 6, 1968. Swaziland covers an area of 17,360 km², but is mostly mountainous, with its main resources being asbestos, coal, clay, gold, and diamonds. The kingdom has over 1 million inhabitants, 97% of whom are African, the remainder from Europe, and 60% are Christian, with the rest following indigenous religions.
