Vietnam has upgraded it to a 105mm self-propelled gun with the addition of additional weapons systems and especially a new chassis design.

According to the Vietnam National Defense Channel, recently the Z751 Joint Enterprise under the General Department of Engineering organized a test firing of the 105mm self-propelled gun version M3. Compared to the previous M1 model (using the Ural-375D chassis), the M3 model has many outstanding new improvements. Photo source: QPVN |

One of the major improvements on the 105mm M3 self-propelled gun is the replacement of the Ural-375D chassis with the Ural-432007 wheeled transport vehicle. Photo source: QPVN |

The Ural-432007 is an improved version of the Ural-4320 medium-duty multi-purpose transport vehicle manufactured by the Auto Ural plant in Miass, Russia. The Ural-4320 is actually a further development of the Ural-375D - which was used by Vietnam as the chassis for the first generation of the 105 self-propelled artillery. Photo source: QPVN |

Compared to the Ural-375D, the Ural-432007 is equipped with a high-power diesel engine, great durability and is very fuel-efficient compared to the 375D using a gasoline engine. In addition, the larger payload allows for the integration of more equipment for the 105mm self-propelled gun. Photo source: QPVN |

In addition to replacing the chassis, the new version of the self-propelled gun made in Vietnam also adds a secondary weapon system for the crew to defend themselves when needed. Here, right on the roof near the cabin, a 12.7mm NSV machine gun mount is added. Photo source: QPVN |

The 12.7mm NSV has a firing rate of 700-800 rounds/minute, an effective range of 1,500-2,000m and can be used to destroy infantry as well as air defense. Photo source: QPVN |

The main weapon was still the 105mm M1 howitzer made in the US, which we captured and reused after 1975. Photo source: QPVN |

The layout of the howitzer on the new version is basically not much different from the previous generation, however, the working platform is placed on the Ural-432007 cargo box with a protective steel frame surrounding it. Photo source: QPVN |

The 105mm self-propelled gun uses the same ammunition as the towed version, which we have now produced. Therefore, using the same ammunition is really economical and effective. Photo source: QPVN |

After installation and actual testing, the number of gunners in the battery was reduced by 4 people compared to before, while reducing combat operation time and increasing the durability of the gun's structures because they did not have to operate on the ground. Photo source: QPVN |

The successful test of integrating a 105mm cannon onto a wheeled vehicle is a breakthrough idea, not only taking advantage of and promoting the advantages of old types of equipment that have been equipped but also increasing the mobility of artillery batteries, making it more feasible to prevent and counterattack enemy attacks with high-tech weapons.
