Thanks to mastering production technology, Vietnam has successfully integrated the M203 grenade launcher into the Vietnamese version of the Galil ACE.
The M203 is a 40mm grenade launcher developed by the US Army in the late 1960s to replace the M79, the standard US grenade launcher at that time. |
To this day, the M203 remains the standard grenade launcher of the US Army, equipped on many different infantry weapons. It is also widely used in many countries around the world with many different variations. |
The standard M203 grenade launcher weighs 1.36 kg empty; is 380 mm long (barrel length 305 mm); uses 40 x 46 mm ammunition similar to the M79, for an effective range of 350 m, maximum range of 400 m, rate of fire of 5 - 7 rounds/minute, initial velocity of 76 m/s. |
The M203 can only fire a single round after each shot must be reloaded similar to the M79. The slide design on the M203 allows soldiers to push the barrel forward and reload at the rear of the barrel and the trigger is also located here. |
That's why the M203's firing speed is quite fast, from 5-7 rounds/minute, a bit faster than the M76, its effective firing range is from 150m to a maximum of 400m. |
To support shooting with the M203, infantry rifle models are also integrated with a mechanical sight for the M203, located right on the rifle barrel or on the M203's available mount. This sight supports soldiers in aiming at a distance of 50-250m. |
In addition to being integrated with infantry rifle models, the M203 can also be modified to become a separate weapon model when it already has a trigger and only needs to add a handle and a bracket to become a complete gun. |
The weight of the M203 is only about 1.36kg when equipped with the handle, which is not more than 2kg, but it is much more effective than the M79, which weighs up to nearly 3kg. |
Currently, because Vietnam has mastered the technology to produce M203 and Galil ACE guns, it is not difficult for us to integrate these two weapons together. |
In particular, Vietnam also produced and improved the M203 to be able to integrate with rifles produced by the Soviet Union while still ensuring the combat capabilities of each weapon are maintained. |
