On the morning of August 29th, the Verafirm portal was officially launched in Vietnam. This is an online registration system, a tool that allows businesses to register and manage their software assets themselves.

The program is implemented by the BSA Software Alliance.

Accordingly, by participating in the Verafirm system, businesses can self-assess or use a third party to assess their computer software. These third parties are essentially entities registered to monitor computer software programs, through the quality control of the BSA Software Alliance.

The Verafirm system will verify the copyrighted computer software declared by businesses and provide assessments of the level of compliance of these entities in using the software.

After becoming a member of Verafirm, the system will provide businesses with a digital badge to attach to their official website, demonstrating their strict adherence to intellectual property laws and business ethics.

This will enhance businesses' competitiveness in the market. “Using licensed software means better efficiency and internal control, resulting in higher quality products and services,” said Tarun Sawney, Asia Pacific Director of Anti-Piracy at the BSA Software Alliance.

Verafirm was built in collaboration with major global software vendors and reputable experts. Vietnam is the fifth country in the world to implement this computer software inventory system.

The Software Alliance (BSA) is an international organization whose members are global technology companies with widely used products such as Microsoft, Apple, Cisco, Adobe, etc. Its mission is to protect software manufacturers from copyright infringement.

In an exchange with the press on the morning of August 29th, Mr. Pham Xuan Phuc, Deputy Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated that: In the five years since the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on the cooperation program to protect computer software copyrights, the rate of computer software copyright infringement in Vietnam has decreased from 92% to 81%.

“An 11% reduction over five years is an impressive figure. Vietnam is one of the countries that has achieved the most significant reduction in computer software piracy rates in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Tarun Sawney, Asia-Pacific Director of Anti-Piracy Operations at the BSA Software Alliance.

Previously, on August 26, 2008, a Memorandum of Understanding on a cooperation program to protect computer program copyrights was signed between the Copyright Office (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the BSA Software Alliance and the Vietnam Software Association (VINASA).
