Vietnam and Laos cooperate in developing power projects.
On October 24th, in Vientiane, Laos, a Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Hoang Quoc Vuong and a Lao delegation led by Minister of Energy and Mines Sulyvong Dalavong held talks on cooperation in electricity development between the two countries.
(Baonghean) –On October 24th, in Vientiane, Laos, a Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Hoang Quoc Vuong and a Lao delegation led by Minister of Energy and Mines Sulyvong Dalavong held talks on cooperation in electricity development between the two countries.
The talks took place in an open and mutually understanding spirit, based on the Agreement on Cooperation in the Development of Power and Mining Projects signed between the Governments of Vietnam and Laos, which was agreed upon by both Parties and States. The two sides discussed and reached a high level of consensus on issues such as: the implementation of the My Ly and Nam Mo 1 hydropower projects in Ky Son district, Nghe An province of Vietnam; the planning of hydropower potential in Laos; and the planning for the connection of the Vietnam-Laos power grid. The two sides also discussed several issues related to the investment and construction of hydropower projects by Vietnamese enterprises in Laos.
On this occasion, the Lao government selected the Vietnam-Laos Economic Cooperation Corporation of Nghe An province as the investor for the My Ly and Nam Mo 1 hydropower projects. The project has a total capacity of 345 MW and is located in the Vietnam-Laos border area, bordering Nghe An province and the two provinces of Hua Phan and Xieng Khouang.
The heads of the two delegations also signed a memorandum of agreement on a cooperation program for the development of electricity and energy projects between Vietnam and Laos; the implementation of several Vietnam-Laos hydropower projects; and the necessary steps for the construction of energy development projects between the two countries...
