Vietnam ranks among the countries with the cheapest hotel room rates in the world.

Hanoi ranked second and Ho Chi Minh City ranked sixth in the list of the 10 cities with the cheapest hotel rooms.

The renowned travel website Hotels.com has just published a list of the world's most expensive and cheapest hotel cities. Vietnam's two major cities, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, are both in the top 10 for affordable hotel rooms. In 2013, the average hotel room price in Hanoi was $65.20 per night, a 20% decrease compared to 2012 ($81.90). In Ho Chi Minh City, tourists would spend $95.30 per night on a hotel room, a 2% decrease from the previous year ($98.60).

The remaining eight cities in this super-cheap list are Phnom Penh (ranked first) with a nightly room rate of $55 USD. Siem Reap is third with a room rate of $70.2 USD. Two Thai cities, Chiang Mai and Pattaya, are fourth ($76.9 USD) and fifth ($76.9 USD). Four cities share positions six through ten: Riga ($102 USD), Bangkok ($102 USD), Krakow ($103.6 USD), and Vilnius ($107 USD).

Monte Carlo is one of the most expensive destinations in Europe in terms of hotel room prices.

In addition, the most expensive place in the world for hotel accommodation in 2013 was Monte Carlo, Monaco, with an average price of $331.1 per night. Second was Muscat, Oman, at $324.4 per night. New York, USA, ranked third ($309) and Key West fourth ($285.9). Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, came in fifth with $279.2. The remaining five cities in the top 10 for expensive hotels were Cancun ($265.9), Moscow ($259.2), Boston ($252.5), Cannes ($252.5), and Geneva ($250.8).
