Vovinam - Vietnamese martial arts is a unique martial art that was formed in 1938 by Master Nguyen Loc, who distilled the essence of Vietnamese culture and martial arts. Vovinam, with its pure Vietnamese nature, aims to guide generations of Vietnamese youth to love their country, live a useful life with a strong body, intelligent mind, a kind soul and noble morality with the main spirit "A steel hand placed on a compassionate heart".

After the Nghe An Vovinam Association was established in October 2014 under the Decision of the Nghe An Provincial People's Committee, the Association's Board of Directors, along with the collective of martial artists, coaches, and members of the Association immediately began planning and preparing for the implementation of activities in 2015. Under the direction of the Association, the Vovinam movement in the Province has made new, organized, disciplined, and in-depth developments, achieving some positive results.

On October 17-18, 2015, with the approval of the Department of Culture - Sports & Tourism of Nghe An and the support of Vinh University, the Vovinam Nghe An Association successfully organized the "Nghe An Province Vovinam Clubs Open Cup" with the participation of 12 units in the two provinces of Nghe An and Ha Tinh, competing for 24 sets of medals: 12 combat weight categories and 12 performance events.

In 2015, Nghe An Vovinam Association organized 12 elementary exams for clubs in the province, with hundreds of martial artists participating in the exams at belt levels: Entry, First, Second and Third Blue Belt.

Under the management of the Association, last year Vovinam Nghe An has been constantly expanded in quantity as well as quality, with the number of clubs increasing from 12 clubs in 2014 to 20 clubs in 2015. Besides developing the movement in Nghe An, the Association's coaching board has also trained and supported Ha Tinh to develop the movement, adding 4 coaches and 2 clubs: Ha Tinh University Club and Viet Duc Vocational College.

In early 2015, the Association sent key coaches to train to standardize and improve techniques at the Vietnam Vovinam Federation (Ho Chi Minh City). The Association also sent referees to participate in the management of the National Vovinam Championship in Thanh Hoa. The Technical Committee of Nghe An Vovinam Association regularly organizes training courses to improve technical expertise, teaching methods, and training for coaches and instructors in the province.

Nghe An Vovinam Team, under the Sports Training and Coaching Center (Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism), directly coached and led by Coach Tran Trong Cuong - Vice President of Nghe An Vovinam Association, has achieved many high achievements in tournaments. National Youth Tournament: 7 athletes participated; Achievements: 1 gold medal, 2 silver medals. National Championship: 9 athletes participated; 2 gold medals, 1 bronze medal, 3 bronze medals. National Strong Teams Championship Cup: 10 athletes participated; Achievements: 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal, 3 bronze medals. Vovinam Tournament - National University and Professional Sports Festival: 01 gold medal, 03 bronze medals. 2015 World Vovinam Championship in Algeria: Nghe An athletes won silver medals.

The Nghe An Vovinam fighting team is highly appreciated by the National Federation and other provinces, its achievements are always in the top 4,5,6 nationwide. In 2015, 2 individuals who are Martial Artists and Coaches of the Nghe An Vovinam Association with excellent achievements were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Vietnam Vovinam Federation. There are 7 individuals who are Coaches in charge of clubs and localities in the Province with many achievements and contributions to the movement, and were decided to be rewarded by the Executive Committee of the Nghe An Vovinam Association.

Welcoming the Year of the Monkey 2016, Nghe An Vovinam Association will implement many action programs, aiming to bring pure Vietnamese martial arts to all classes, all generations, especially the young generation. Including strengthening the development of extracurricular Vovinam clubs at high schools, training and coaching students of high schools, districts and towns to participate in the 2016 Nghe An Vovinam High School Student Tournament. Expanding Vovinam clubs at district and town Cultural - Sports Centers, further developing the quantity and improving the quality of Vovinam clubs at universities, colleges and vocational schools.
