Vietnamese martial arts in Nghe An – a successful year.

(Baonghean.vn) - On December 20th, the Nghe An Vovinam Association summarized its activities in 2015 and outlined its plan for 2016.

Attending the program were representatives from the Vietnam Vovinam Federation, Master Phan Ngoc Lan – Vice President of the Nghe An Provincial Vovinam Association, leaders of the Faculty of Physical Education at Vinh University, and other units.

The Nghe An Vovinam Association was established according to Decision No. 3274/QD-UBND of Nghe An province dated July 15, 2014. With the resilient spirit of the people of Nghe An and the martial arts spirit of "dedication and contribution" of its students, from the first Vovinam club at Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School, many more clubs have been established in schools such as Vinh University, Van Xuan University, Viet-Korean Vocational College, and several other districts and towns. In the past year, the Nghe An Vovinam team has consistently ranked in the Top 5 in the national medal standings.

Representatives from Vovinam, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and other participating units attended the conference.

In 2015, the Nghe An Vovinam Association organized 12 beginner-level examinations for clubs in the province, with hundreds of martial artists participating in belt levels: beginner, first, second, and third blue belt.

To date, the association has 20 clubs. Besides developing the movement in Nghe An, the association's coaching staff also trains and supports clubs in Ha Tinh in terms of technical skills.

The Nghe An Vovinam team, belonging to the Nghe An Sports Training Center (Nghe An Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism), has achieved many high results such as: 1 gold medal and 2 silver medals at the National Youth Championship; the National Strong Teams Cup (2 gold, 3 bronze); the National Strong Teams Championship; the Vovinam - National Student Sports Games: 1 silver, 3 bronze…

Notably, athlete Truong Van Mao won a Silver Medal at the 2015 World Vovinam Championships in Algeria. Furthermore, the Nghe An Vovinam sparring team is highly regarded by the national federation and other provinces, consistently ranking 5th to 8th nationally.
