The $11.3 billion contract will be implemented during the 2019-2023 period, according to the contract recently signed under the witness of President Tran Dai Quang and US President Barack Obama.

The contract was signed by Boeing CEO Ray Conner and Vietjet Air CEO Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao at the Presidential Palace this afternoon. Accordingly, 100 737 Max 200 aircraft will be delivered by Boeing to Vietjet within 4 years (2019 - 2023) to serve the Vietnamese airline's network expansion plan.

The contract is worth a total of 11.3 billion USD, but the parties have not yet disclosed details of the financing plan for this deal. In 2015, Vietjet achieved sales revenue (goods and services) of 534 million USD, flight revenue of 488 million USD, and pre-tax profit of 37 million USD.

The B737 MAX 200 is a narrow-body aircraft with integrated new generation CFM International LEAP-1B engines and small wing systems, advertised to save 20% fuel consumption compared to the first generation Next-Generation 737.

The above-mentioned aircraft purchase plan is Vietjet's second largest contract in the past two years, after the agreement to purchase and lease a total of 100 A320 and A321 aircraft (worth 9.1 billion USD) with Boeing's rival Airbus in 2014. In addition, in mid-2015, the airline also signed a contract to buy 6 more A321 aircraft (worth 682 million USD).

If the above contracts are fully implemented, by 2023, Vietjet's fleet will consist of more than 200 aircraft, a sharp increase compared to the number of 29 aircraft as of the end of 2015. The airline is currently operating more than 250 flights per day with nearly 50 domestic routes and international routes to Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, China, Thailand, Myanmar and Malaysia.

Along with the Boeing contract, also at the signing ceremony this morning, Vietjet also reached a $3.4 billion agreement with Pratt & Whitney, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp (USA), to provide PurePower Geared Turbofan engines and fleet maintenance and repair services for the airline's A320 NEO and A321 NEO aircraft.
