Vietnam's Got Talent 2016: Chi Trung brings two girls performing tightrope walking to the semi-finals.

Vietnam's Got Talent 2016 kicked off the trend of reality TV shows with its first episode airing on January 1, 2016 on VTV3.

Returning with major changes from the judging panel to the MC and stage design, the new season of Vietnam's Got Talent has introduced its first contestants with a diverse range of performance genres: singing, dancing, magic, belly dancing, painting, and more.

Episode 1 marked a pleasant surprise when the two guest judges of the Northern Audition Round, Chi Trung and Thanh Lam, respectively pressed the golden buzzer for the dancesport performance of two young contestants, Nguyen My Anh and Ha Bao Anh, and the Hanoi Young Catholic Choir. This means that Episode 1 revealed the first two names who will officially advance to the semi-finals in the near future.

The judging panel consists of three people: Chí Trung, Thanh Lam, and Huy Tuấn.

Joining the guest judges Thanh Lam and Chi Trung in the Northern Stage Audition round is musician Huy Tuan. Maintaining his strict approach to evaluating and selecting contestants, Huy Tuan continues to inspire contestants to strive harder. Furthermore, the lively hosting of the new MC, Diep Lam Anh, the seamless interplay of the "powerful trio," and the captivating performances of the first few acts have given Vietnam's Got Talent 2016 a vibrant and emotional start.

The magician duo Le Viet Anh and Nguyen Duy Anh from Hanoi opened the show and immediately received the approval of the "powerful trio" of judges. Their performance, featuring playing cards, was a success thanks to their charm, chemistry, skillful stage presence, and catchy music.

Despite being only 8 years old, their skillful dancesport and aerial acrobatics performance in the "Vong Nguyet" dance impressed the entire studio audience.

The seamless, decisive coordination of their movements and the bright, cheerful faces of the two girls captivated the audience, with judge Chi Trung pressing the golden buzzer even while the performance was still underway. Their soulful acting, mastery of the stage, and above all, their ability to evoke emotion in the audience, earned Ha Bao Anh and Nguyen My Anh a deserving spot in the semi-finals thanks to judge Chi Trung's single golden buzzer.

The Hanoi Young Catholic Choir, with 27 members, was the last performance of episode 1 but managed to win the golden buzzer from judge Thanh Lam. Thanh Lam said that in Vietnam, the most difficult thing is collective collaboration and group singing, so she was very surprised by the incredible consistency and harmony of the young singers' voices.

This choir also brings together many students from various universities in Hanoi. Upon receiving Thanh Lam's Golden Buzzer, the group stated that their hard work and achievements have been recognized, and they will practice even harder to shine in the challenging semi-final round ahead.

Talented groups shine in the stage auditions.

Right in the first episode, the talented groups proved their abilities by successively winning over the judges to earn a ticket to the Judges Cull round. Besides Diva Thanh Lam's Golden Buzzer for the Hanoi Catholic Choir, the Hai Phong Brass Band also left a positive impression with its members, aged 25 to over 40, performing together with great enthusiasm, appearing with meticulous and impressive preparation.

Besides that, the group The Heaven, consisting of three guys: Duong Quang Tu, Nghia Nguyen, and Tuan Hung, also had a rather impressive and captivating mash-up performance of the song "Con Co" (The Crane). Right after that was the group of six-pack guys – Bar Times – whose members, aged only 15 to 18, already had bodies that impressed the judges when they performed the street workout that had been a sensation in last year's competition. All the talented groups appearing in episode 1 showed their charisma and seriousness in coming to this year's Vietnam's Got Talent stage.

Contestant Nguyen Van Anh appeared in a belly dance costume and veil, captivating the judges with her smooth, graceful, and sensual belly dance movements. Judge Chi Trung commented: “Not only did she perform belly dance, but she also incorporated swordsmanship, which is a unique aspect of this performance. I liked it even more when she removed her veil; a woman in her 40s with the body of a 19-year-old girl.” Sometimes, surprise is an attractive element of the Vietnam's Got Talent stage, and Nguyen Van Anh successfully delivered on that.

Pham Binh Minh (15 years old) was one of the young contestants who made a strong impression in the Northern regional stage qualifiers. Starting by inviting judges Huy Tuan and Chi Trung onto the stage, Binh Minh used his internal energy to "suck" an upside-down bowl onto his stomach, causing judge Chi Trung to struggle to pull it out in vain. Next, the two judges sat on a "homemade" cart while the boy used his abdominal strength to pull them along. After witnessing this performance, judge Chi Trung exclaimed in admiration and praised the boy profusely. His "talented youth" and "superhuman" strength earned Pham Binh Minh a ticket to the Judges Call round with three "yes" votes from the judging panel.
