Vinamilk leads the top 100 sustainable enterprises in Vietnam in 2020
(Baonghean.vn) - The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) has just announced the Top 100 sustainable enterprises of Vietnam in the manufacturing sector in 2020. Accordingly, Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk) continues to be the leading unit.
This is the fifth consecutive year that Vinamilk has been honored by the Program for Assessment and Announcement of Sustainable Enterprises in Vietnam (CSI 100) for its pioneering and innovative approach to implementing sustainable development strategies.
To receive the highest rating in the list of sustainable enterprises in Vietnam, Vinamilk has made constant efforts to meet the strict screening criteria based on the Corporate Sustainability Index (CSI) and has been at the forefront of implementing sustainable development initiatives. The CSI is built as a measure of corporate value based on sustainable development criteria in three main areas: Economy, Environment and Society.

On the same day, December 10, 2020, Vinamilk also received another special result when it was the only and first company in Vietnam to be honored as an “ASEAN Valuable Investment Asset” (“ASEAN ASSET CLASS”) based on the results of the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard 2019 under the ASEAN Corporate Governance Initiative of the ASEAN Capital Markets Forum (ACMF).
Pioneering circular economy applications
“The circular economy orientation is the guiding principle in Vinamilk's sustainable development strategy. Vinamilk will further promote sustainable development programs and initiatives; establish a specialized department in charge of circular economy; strive to complete the set sustainable development goals, aiming to be in the top 30 largest dairy companies in the world and becoming the dairy company that creates the most value in Southeast Asia according to strategic goals.”
To realize this orientation, Vinamilk has applied the circular economy model to its farm and factory systems for many years. Initially, these initiatives have brought positive results. For example, at dairy farms, Vinamilk's green agricultural cycle focuses on Biogas technology and the principle of converting waste into resources. This is a notable highlight in Vinamilk's efforts to implement the circular economy, bringing significant environmental benefits, utilizing renewable energy and significantly reducing CO2 emissions.

In addition, Vinamilk also actively ensures the value of valuable agricultural land resources by applying Japanese technology to the soil regeneration cycle and organic farming. By the end of 2019, Vinamilk's total organic pasture area had increased 10 times compared to 2016.
In the factory sector, in parallel with implementing an international standard environmental and energy management system, Vinamilk actively implements sustainable initiatives. Notably, 100% of wastewater is treated to ensure strict output standards. Part of the water is reused to serve the production and operation stages of the factory. Vinamilk is also promoting the roadmap to reduce waste and emissions. Specifically, the goals of reducing the amount of plastic used in the production process, using green energy, renewable energy from biomass and CNG, LED lighting systems, investment projects using solar energy at all dairy farms will be officially launched in 2021...
Vinamilk's long-term orientation will focus on applying 4.0 technology in management and operation to ensure quality, improve productivity, optimize resources towards sustainable development.

Value for employees and community
In the context of 2020 with unprecedented fluctuations due to Covid-19, the issue of maintaining employment and health safety for employees is considered by Vinamilk as an important aspect of sustainable development. With appropriate adjustments to human resource policies in the new context as well as stability in production and business activities, 100% of Vinamilk's employees are guaranteed employment, welfare and health safety during Covid-19.
2020 is also the third consecutive year that Vinamilk has maintained the No. 1 position in the list of “Best Places to Work in Vietnam”. This is especially meaningful in a challenging year for the labor market and human resources.

In addition to ensuring the rights and jobs of employees, 2020 is the year Vinamilk actively promotes community activities. The company has allocated a budget of nearly 40 billion VND for epidemic prevention, community support and frontline forces. Of which, 1.7 million milk cartons have been delivered to disadvantaged children in the midst of the pandemic. Vinamilk's major CSR programs such as the "Vietnam Grow Up Milk Fund", "1 Million Trees for Vietnam Fund" or the School Milk program accompanying localities are still being implemented.
In particular, in 2020, the 1 Million Trees for Vietnam Fund completed the program's goal with more than 1.1 million trees planted. This is a very commendable effort and was honored by the Global CSR Awards 2020 in the Top 10 Best Environmental Activities. At the same time, Vinamilk is also the Enterprise with the best community activities in Vietnam according to The Global CSR Awards 2020.
