In early October 2014, the contest to learn about the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 25th anniversary of the National Defense Day was officially launched in Nghe An. Previously, at the end of September, the contest was launched by the Military Region IV Command and directed to be implemented by units. In order for the contest to have a strong influence on all classes of people, on October 25, 2014, the Provincial People's Committee issued Plan No. 569/KH-UBND. Accordingly, the Provincial Military Command was directed to coordinate with the Provincial Youth Union, the Department of Education and Training, and the Provincial Veterans Association to widely deploy it to all classes of people. After less than 2 months of launching, nearly 100% of grassroots youth organizations in the entire province participated. The contest organizers received 126,727 entries, including some that were very elaborate and dedicated, expressing the hearts of each individual and collective before the noble values of the history of the struggle for national liberation.
In particular, the Organizing Committee of the contest received more than 1,000 entries from third grade students, hundreds of quality entries from veterans. Typical examples include: Mr. Nguyen Van Chien, 81 years old, a member of the Vinh City Veterans Association; Mr. Nguyen Van Sang, 80 years old, a member of the Nam Dan District Veterans Association. From the plains to remote areas, from the sea to the mountains, from the armed forces to the people in the border areas, the contest has become a strong political activity. Thereby, it has aroused national pride and a sense of responsibility towards the Fatherland and the nation in each person. Through the contest, the noble image of Uncle Ho's soldiers has a strong vitality in the masses. Those are glorious feats, symbols of revolutionary heroism, resounding feats and everyday qualities of officers and soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army. The contest is also an encouragement for today's young generation to inherit and promote the traditions of their ancestors, continue to uphold the spirit of self-reliance and self-improvement, and contribute their strength and intelligence to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
The Provincial Military Command is the unit assigned to be in charge of the Contest to learn about the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 25th anniversary of the National Defense Day. Through the exchange, Senior Lieutenant Ho Xuan Thang, Youth Assistant - Provincial Military Command, said that it was unexpected that the contest had such a rapid spread. Units with a large number of entries include: Nam Dan, Nghi Loc, Dien Chau, Hung Nguyen, Quynh Luu districts, Department of Education and Training, Veterans Association... Most of the entries were invested in terms of time, effort, and intelligence. In many entries, the authors showed seriousness and diligence in collecting many valuable pictures, documents on history, and illustrative notes appropriate to the questions and topics. Some entries were presented in hundreds of handwritten pages, many others had a capacity of up to 1,500 A4 pages.
Typical examples include the exam of the Provincial Military School's Youth Union or the exam of Lieutenant Le Duc Tho - Political Assistant of the Vinh City Military Command. Teacher Phan Thi Thuy - Truong Thi Primary School (Vinh City), who won the third prize of the contest, said that for a long time, many people still think that today's young generation is indifferent to history, but that is not the case. The proof is that the contest has had a great impact on all classes of people. In particular, according to Ms. Thuy, the noble values of life and the lessons of yesterday's history are also told through flesh and blood witnesses, of many people who have gone through the two sacred wars of the nation in the 20th century. That is what makes history vital today.
At the preliminary round of the contest in Nghe An, the Organizing Committee selected 158 quality entries and awarded 22 winning collectives and individuals.
