Vietnamese version of "Hamlet" to tour in Singapore

From March 23 to 27, the play "Hamlet" by the great poet William Shakespeare, directed by Meritorious Artist Anh Tu, will be performed at the Victoria Theater (Singapore).

First premiered in November 2015, the play "Hamlet" by the great poet William Shakespeare, directed by Meritorious Artist Anh Tu and the troupe of artists from the Vietnam Drama Theater, quickly received the attention of the audience. In addition to the regular performance at the Vietnam Drama Theater, the special performance in Hanoi on November 3, 2015 and the Ho Chi Minh City Theater on the evening of January 5, 2016, sold out.

Director, Meritorious Artist Anh Tu staged "Hamlet" with a new version, a "Hamlet" in which the darkness in each person is exposed in a realistic way.

Following that success, at the invitation of the Singapore Performing Arts Association and with the permission of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Drama Theater will bring the Vietnamese version of "Hamlet" to perform at Singapore's oldest theater - Victoria, from March 23 to 27.

This is an activity in response to the 2016 Global Shakespeare Year. In addition, this tour program is also part of the long-term development strategy of the Vietnam Drama Theater on the journey to find its own values. The value of "Red Elder Brother" aims to bring the audience back to the stage with top-notch works of art. At the same time, this is also the beginning of a new journey on the path of socializing art, creating opportunities for exchange, cooperation and making an impression on the hearts of domestic and foreign audiences.

Director of the Vietnam Drama Theater - Mr. Nguyen The Vinh expressed: "Trips like this will be a "push" to stimulate the passion for creativity and the desire to conquer the peak of art of artists, making their dreams come true".

According to the Organizing Committee, this is an activity in response to the 2016 Global Shakespeare Year.

And, with his passion for art and dedication to the play, Meritorious Artist Anh Tu has created a new version of the classic play “Hamlet”, in which five famous plays from Xuan Pha village (Thanh Hoa province) including: Ngo Quoc, Hoa Lang, Tu Thuan, Ai Lao and Xiem Thanh are integrated into the dance classes, adding to the tragicomedy of the play without breaking the structure of the main stage.

Director Anh Tu shared: "The play "Hamlet" when being performed on tour still retains the same spirit and basic content as in Vietnam. However, to help foreign audiences understand the characters' lines, the organizers also have English subtitles shown on the screen."

The stage of the play was also designed by veteran People's Artist Doan Chau in a modern and flexible style, helping to enhance the acting ability of the actors. The lighting effects also contributed significantly to the appeal of the play.

The program will have the participation of all artists of Vietnam Drama Theater.

In addition to the official performance of the play "Hamlet" at the Victoria Theatre, the Vietnam Drama Theatre also coordinated with the Vietnam Youth Union and the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore to organize an artistic exchange program between famous artists in the Vietnamese drama industry such as: Meritorious Artist Xuan Bac, Meritorious Artist Quoc Khanh, Meritorious Artist Trung Anh, Artist Phu Don, Meritorious Artist Viet Thang, Meritorious Artist Chi Trung, Meritorious Artist Ngoc Huyen, People's Artist Le Khanh, Meritorious Artist Cong Ly, People's Artist Tu Long... with Vietnamese students in Singapore.
