President Donald Trump's Labor Day message on September 4 on Twitter caused him and First Lady Melania to be criticized for their image negligence, according to AOL.
"We are building our future with American hands, American labor, and American iron, aluminum, and steel," Trump wrote in the message, repeating the slogan "buy American, hire American."
However, in the photo attached to the message, Mrs. Melania wore a $2,255 dress by Greek designer Mary Katrantzou, made in Italy with French materials.
Many Twitter users were quick to point out the mistake in the President's message. "Funny, Melania wearing a dress made in Italy, but that's okay," Megan Taylor wrote.
"Melania's dress is Italian. There's nothing wrong with Italian clothes. But Trump is a hypocrite," commented Denise Dreon-Watson.
However, many people have spoken out to defend Trump. "Please! Almost everything in America is made somewhere else. Try to work with Trump to change that!", argued Jacqueline Houle.
A day after her husband's message, Melania also wrote a congratulatory message on Twitter. "On Labor Day 2017, we honor America's workers for their contributions to America's prosperity," she wrote.
