Leicester and Tottenham are giving up everything for the Premier League title. Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd continue to compete in the FA Cup quarter-finals this weekend.

Premier League Round 30 Norwich – Man City (7:45 p.m. Saturday, March 12):Man City set their long-term goals with a rosy outlook when Pep Guardiola arrived, but that left their short-term goals in doubt. “It’s ridiculous to have four months to the end of the season and you already know your manager is going to leave,” Sergio Aguero said, a frustrated comment that came just before the Argentine striker had made it clear that he had rejected a contract extension several times in the past few months and planned to leave the club after the 2018 World Cup. |
What happened at Man City when their brightest star poured cold water on them? However, Aguero's mood is not unique to the Etihad at the moment. There are many players considering leaving. Simply, they do not think they will be part of the revolution that Guardiola and Man City will create. Norwich are in the red zone, having lost eight of their last nine matches. But the home team should not be underestimated. The last time they played at Carrow Road, Man City were held to a 0-0 draw. In the first leg at the Etihad, Manuel Pellegrini's team also had to rely on a last-minute penalty from Yaya Toure to narrowly beat Norwich. |
Bournemouth – Swansea (10pm Saturday, March 12):Bournemouth and Swansea are on 35 and 33 points respectively, enough to ensure they stay in the Premier League next season. Swansea have just won back-to-back games against Arsenal and Norwich. Bournemouth are not far behind, having beaten Southampton and Newcastle. Both teams are probably starting to think about their goals for next season. It might sound boring, but this could be the most open game of the weekend. Both teams are relaxed and confident, having taken the pressure off their relegation fears. Bournemouth and Swansea could look to experiment in their remaining games of the season. That's exciting, and more than that, it could be a goal-scorer. |
Stoke – Southampton (10pm Saturday, March 12):Stoke have a low scoring rate of just 1.06 goals per game in the Premier League this season. This has forced the defence to play more focused to help them maintain eighth place, a position that can compete for a European Cup spot next season. Wins against Manchester clubs Chelsea and Everton have made Stoke very proud. But the truth is that Mark Hughes has not been able to find a stable framework for the Britannia Stadium team. He has been unable to shape the center forward position for the team. After a good start, Bojan Krkic has become increasingly obscure. Jonathan Walters and Peter Crouch have both been given opportunities, but have not shown much. The goal in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea last round was Mame Biram Diouf's (right) first since his mother died last autumn. Diouf's return, although slow, is timely. Mark Hughes needs a balance in his team, the burden cannot be placed on the defense forever. If he maintains his form, Diouf will be Stoke's spearhead from now until the end of the season. |
Aston Villa – Tottenham (11pm Sunday, March 13):When Tottenham were drawn against Dortmund in the Europa League round of 16, Remi Garde was probably secretly happy that his team would benefit from this. However, with seven changes to the team in the 0-3 defeat to Dortmund, Mauricio Pochettino (second from right) made it clear which front Tottenham were prioritizing. The 'Roosters' are not interested in the Europa League title, they are seriously pursuing the Premier League title because they know this is a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity. |
Pochettino has been criticised for this decision. Many have said that Tottenham need not be so perfectionist as they only have to face bottom side Villa at the weekend. However, as a coach who has impressed and is above all decisive, Pochettino knows that with the injuries and fatigue his players are suffering, it is reasonable to rest key players. As a result, Aston Villa will face Tottenham's almost full strength squad this weekend. Villa have conceded 15 goals in their last four games. They could suffer a fifth consecutive defeat and it is likely to be a heavy one, as Tottenham need a place to vent their frustrations after losing to Dortmund. |
Leicester – Newcastle (3am Tuesday, March 15):Leicester have nine days off before hosting Newcastle and the visitors' poor form has only added to Claudio Ranieri's advantage. Newcastle have lost their last six away games. The visitors have just sacked Steve McClaren and appointed Rafael Benitez (right). But is this a decision too late for the club's board? Facing the league leaders just days after taking charge is not an easy start. Although Benitez is an experienced coach, it is difficult to ask him to give Newcastle a big boost when facing Leicester in his first game in charge. |
Five points clear of second-placed Tottenham, Claudio Ranieri insists his side are not title contenders. The Italian also said Leicester have no target points in their final nine games. After a 2-2 draw with West Brom in the 28th round of the Premier League, Ranieri encouraged his players by saying that his side were ready to compete for the title. But as the advantage became clearer, the coach was modest. Ranieri wanted his clever approach to help his players relieve pressure and play as "innocently" as possible, because that was Leicester's strength. |
FA Cup Quarter-finals Everton – Chelsea (0:30 Sunday, March 13):This is a match to salvage the season for both Chelsea and Everton - two highly rated teams but both underperforming. Chelsea have just been eliminated from the Champions League by PSG. In the Premier League, they, as champions last season, are currently 10th, 20 points behind leaders Leicester. Therefore, the FA Cup is the only trophy they can aim for at the moment. Same goes for Everton. After an unsuccessful season, Roberto Martinez will use all his strength to defeat Chelsea. |
Diego Costa's injury against PSG has left Chelsea in a crisis in attack. Guus Hiddink's introduction of youngster Bertrand Traore in Costa's place in that game showed just how much trouble he is having with his centre-forward position. Loic Remy was left on the bench, while new signing Alexander Pato is still not fit enough to play. For a club with 30 players on loan across Europe, not having a single striker is a shame. Hiddink probably wishes he had a goalscorer like Romelu Lukaku (right). The Belgian was forced out of Stamford Bridge in 2014. Since joining Everton, Lukaku has been a key player. He is currently second in the Premier League's top scorers list with 18 goals, just one behind Jamie Vardy. |
Arsenal - Watford (8:30 p.m. Sunday, March 13):A few days after the match against Watford, Arsenal will play the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Barca. But 'too much effort is too much', Arsene Wenger understands that. Losing 0-2 at home in the first leg, Arsenal do not have many opportunities when traveling to Spain. In this situation, the brightest move of the French coach is still aiming for the third consecutive FA Cup title. Just one more victory and Arsenal will repeat the record of passing 16 consecutive rounds in the FA Cup that they currently hold. |
Aaron Ramsey's injury (right) has almost forced Wenger to use the central midfield pair of Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny. However, looking at the performance of this duo in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham, Gunners fans cannot help but worry. Meanwhile, Watford's weakest point is the two central defenders. The question remains who will play at the heart of their defense. The visitors are still waiting for their main striker Odion Ighalo to end his goal drought. However, their worries have been somewhat alleviated by the impressive form of January signing Nordin Amrabat. |
Man Utd – West Ham (11pm Sunday, March 13):Both teams have the word 'United' in their name but only one side embodies that spirit and it's not Man Utd. Van Gaal's side have just suffered two consecutive defeats against West Brom and Liverpool. Once again, Man Utd have shown an unsightly face, playing disjointed, disorganised and lifeless football. It's not certain that Van Gaal knows how to help his team out of this situation. |
West Ham, on the other hand, are a steely mass of players designed to let their creativity, especially Dimitri Payet, flourish. The east Londoners are quicker, stronger and even more creative than the Manchester giants. It has been a long and sometimes dismal season for West Ham, but they are on a remarkable run. They have won their last four games, and their list of defeats includes Tottenham and Everton. If they knock Man Utd out of the FA Cup, it will be no surprise. |
