Provincial round in Nghe An - TOEFL Challenge International English Competition 2021 - 2022 school year
(Baonghean.vn) - With the desire to create opportunities for students of Nghe An province to participate in English proficiency assessment according to international standards, Nghe An Department of Education and Training in collaboration with IIG Vietnam education organization launched the Provincial Round of TOEFL Challenge - a prestigious English competition for students from grades 2 to 12 in the 2021-2022 school year.

CommentsEnglishis important knowledge and skills in the integration period, facing the urgent need to improve the level of English teaching and learning in the province, the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An province, the Department of Education and Training of districts, cities, towns as well as schools across the province have been actively implementing many teaching activities, building an environment and English roadmap for students, towards the goal of "Improving the quality of foreign language teaching and learning in educational institutions in Nghe An province, period 2020-2025, orientation to 2030".
In particular, responding to the launch of the TOEFL Challenge English contest is one of the English movements that creates opportunities for high school students at all levels in Nghe An province to get acquainted with international test formats, contributing to innovation in testing and evaluating English learning outcomes to meet international standards.
Recently, the free online test round of the contest in Nghe An province received the participation of many students across the province. With the results of this round, the students had a preliminary assessment of their foreign language ability.
After the Online Experience Round, the students are excitedly waiting for the Provincial Competition Round. This will be an opportunity for students to test their English skills with the international English tests TOEFL Primary, TOEFL Junior and TOEFL ITP of the Educational Testing Service (ETS), and have the opportunity to enter the National Final Round to compete with students from all over the country.
Advantages of direct admission when participating in the TOEFL Challenge
Starting from 2020, Nghe An province has issued a direct admission mechanism for candidates with international English certificates for students in grades 6 and 10. In addition, the Ministry of Education and Training has also issued a policy of exemption from exams and achieving a score of 10 in English for high school graduation for candidates with a TOEFL ITP score of 450 or higher.
Students participating in the Provincial Round of the TOEFL Challenge will have an advantage as all test takers will receive a globally valid TOEFL score report from the Educational Testing Service (ETS).
Accordingly, primary school students in districts/cities/towns of Nghe An province can use TOEFL Primary results to directly enroll in grade 6 for the 2022-2023 school year at key high-quality secondary schools and secondary schools recruiting students in the area. For secondary school students, the Department of Education and Training will use the official TOEFL Junior test results for secondary school students to directly enroll in grade 10 for the 2022-2023 school year for the following high schools: Phan Boi Chau, Huynh Thuc Khang, Ha Huy Tap, Le Viet Thuat, Nguyen Duy Trinh, Quy Hop, Do Luong 1 and other high schools according to the enrollment plan. High schools can use the official TOEFL Junior test results for secondary school students to prioritize classes by subject groups (exam groups with English) for university admission for grade 10 students for the 2022-2023 school year.

“In 2022, the epidemic situation has not been completely controlled and is not favorable for organizing separate exams and capacity assessment exams in a widespread manner, so the admission rate for the methods may still be similar and stable as in 2020 and 2021. In the following years, when the Testing Centers are operating stably, the proportion of schools using international English test results will increase sharply to gradually replace the results of high school graduation exams and separate exams organized by school groups.”

Ms. Le Phuong Hoa, a parent whose child is in grade 12 at a high school in Nghe An province, said that last year she also let her child participate in the TOEFL Challenge:“This year, my nephew and I also agreed to continue registering for the contest.
