Doctors recommend that IUDs are the most effective method of contraception. However, manufacturers usually set the shelf life of IUDs at 5 years. Therefore, after 5 years, women must remove the IUD and reinsert it. During the time of IUD placement, regular check-ups are required to avoid infection and IUD misplacement.
