Speaking on CNN on September 29, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said the victim was a woman named Fabiola Bittar de Kroon, 34 years old, who was hit by a train while standing on the platform waiting for the train.
According to Mr. Christie, the train entered the station at high speed, knocked down the barrier on the platform and crashed into the wall inside the station. The strong collision caused many injuries. Governor Christie emphasized that the state government is working closely with federal investigators to clarify the cause of this accident.
Meanwhile, the Governor of New York said it was too early to confirm the cause of the accident, but it could have been due to technical or human error. White House spokesman Josh Ernest said terrorism could not be completely ruled out.
Mr. Christie said that all resources are being devoted to treating the injured. Fortunately, none of the 114 injured people are life-threatening.
