British Prime Minister Teresa May's accusations of Russia's involvement in the poisoning of former GRU colonel Sergey Skripal could lead to the termination of diplomatic relations between the two countries or the withdrawal of ambassadors from both countries, Russian MP Igor Morozov told Sputnik.

There have been very few cases of such political pressure before, said Igor Morozov. They all ended in termination or restriction, or even withdrawal of ambassadors. According to him, in the current situation, both Russia and the UK can withdraw their ambassadors.

"The British must know that they will meet a very harsh reaction from us. We will be calm, adequate but tight. We will see what London's next actions are and fully respond to these challenges," said Mr. Morozov.

On the afternoon of March 12, British Prime Minister Teresa May said that it was "highly likely" that Russia was involved in the assassination attempt using poison on former GRU colonel Sergei Skripal, a Russian intelligence officer who had worked for British intelligence.

Mrs May has given Russia until midnight on 13 March to explain in detail, otherwise she has promised to take "further serious measures" against Russia.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has called Theresa May's statement about Skripal "a circus show in the British parliament" and said that the British government had started a provocative information campaign.
