The case of illegal loggers cutting down 13 po mu trees: Proposal to cut the only road into the rich forest area of ​​Pu Huong

((Baonghean.vn) - This is one of the solutions that the Quang Phong commune government (Que Phong) proposed to the competent authority to implement to protect the rich forest area in Pu Huong Nature Reserve after the incident of 13 po mu trees being cut down by illegal loggers.

The road that Quang Phong commune authorities proposed to the competent authority to cut is the only road that Tan Hong Company opened during the project implementation phase in Quang Phong and Cam Muon communes. This road runs from Cam Muon commune (Que Phong) through Sub-area 148 (Pu Huong Nature Reserve) to Khe Ton, and around to Quyn village in Quang Phong commune.

The reason why Quang Phong commune authorities have this proposal is because in Cam Muon commune, there are some people who often use this route to illegally exploit precious timber trees in the rich forest area of ​​Pu Huong Nature Reserve located in Quang Phong commune.

According to Mr. Sam Van Minh - Vice Chairman of Quang Phong Commune People's Committee, Quang Phong Commune has about 4,400 hectares of special-use forest, belonging to 4 sub-areas 147, 148, 149, 150 of Pu Huong Nature Reserve. This is a rich forest area with many precious trees such as po mu, sen, tau mat... which are often targeted by bad guys.

Recently, there have been many cases of illegal exploitation of precious timber trees that have been detected and handled by the authorities according to the provisions of the law. A typical example is the illegal transportation of 10,565 m³po mu sawn timber in 2015; or the recent felling of 13 po mu trees...

However, due to the extremely complex geographical nature, the Quang Phong commune government determined that the management and protection of the rich forest area in Pu Huong Nature Reserve will still face many difficulties.

“Therefore, it is necessary to completely cut off the route from Cam Muon commune to sub-region 148, eliminating the route for illegal transportation of forest products…” - Vice Chairman of Quang Phong Commune People's Committee Sam Van Minh discussed.

It is known that in the case of illegal loggers cutting down 13 po mu trees, the authorities identified the subjects as local people from Cam Muon commune.

And the proposal to cut off the road from Cam Muon commune to sub-area 148 of Quang Phong commune People's Committee is considered by Pu Huong Nature Reserve as one of the solutions to manage and protect the forest. This agency also sent a document to Que Phong district People's Committee to consider allowing the implementation.
