These days, the atmosphere of mourning still covers the people of the small hamlet of Canh Son. Because of their poverty, people here flock to work everywhere, including nearly 10 people who go to work in the Ninh Hiep market area, Hanoi, where the generator gas suffocation incident occurred on September 17, killing 3 people and seriously injuring 3 others.
Present at the home of Mr. Bui Van Suu and Mrs. Vo Thi Thanh, the parents of the two brothers Bui Van Giap and Bui Van Hoang, the atmosphere in the small house was extremely sad. Mrs. Thanh lay motionless on the bed, unable to get up, her siblings and neighbors took turns staying by, sharing the family's loss.
Mr. Suu and Mrs. Thanh's life depends on a few fields of rice to have money to raise their 3 children: 2 boys, 1 girl. Mr. Suu works as a construction worker, while his wife takes care of the housework and raising animals, but life is still difficult.

Neighbors came to offer condolences to the families of the two victims Bui Van Giap and Bui Van Hoang. |
Neighbors of the family all praised Mr. Suu and his wife's children. Despite their difficult circumstances, the three Giap brothers were very diligent and obedient since childhood. Giap used to be a good student, but due to family circumstances, after graduating from grade 12, he did not take the university entrance exam and decided to stay home and find a job.
In 2013, according to some villagers, Giap went to Hanoi to find a job and was hired by a family that specialized in clothing business at Ninh Hiep market. Thanks to his diligence and honesty, Giap was trusted by the owner and considered as a family member. His daily job was to sell goods at Ninh Hiep market.
After a while, Giap's younger sister also followed him to Ninh Hiep commune to find a job. The two siblings saved up and saved up some money to help their parents build a level 4 house.
“The youngest brother, Bui Van Hoang, just followed his brother to Hanoi to work since the beginning of this year. Seeing his children working hard, everyone was happy for the couple. They never expected it to turn out like this. They had two sons, but they both died,” said Nguyen Dinh Ba, a relative of the family.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Chinh, Giap and Hoang's aunt, who works as a housekeeper near the area where the two children work, said: "Early in the morning of September 17, I was at my employer's house (about 1km away from where the two children work) when I heard the landlady calling from the market to tell me the bad news. I rushed there and saw a large crowd of people gathered in the rented room. When I went inside, I saw the children lying motionless."
In addition to brothers Giap and Hoang, in Canh Son hamlet there are 3 other victims: Luu Thi Nhung (born 2000), Tran Van Sang (born 1998), and Dau Thi Hang (born 1997) who are being treated at the hospital and are all in critical condition.
The victims' families were all brothers and relatives, so the pain of the families and people in the neighborhood was multiplied. Neighbors gathered to encourage and share.

Ms. Hoang Thi Hoa, Hang's grandmother, was in pain when talking about her granddaughter. |
Ms. Hoang Thi Hoa, 65 years old, Hang's grandmother, looked tired and could not hold back her tears when talking about her grandchild: "My poor grandchild, she just got engaged in April, and planned to get married at the end of this year, but now she is lying unconscious."
Hang is the second child in a family of four children. Her father died early, so she had to suffer many disadvantages since childhood. Her mother, Nguyen Thi Hanh, struggled to earn a living to raise her young children who were still in school. To earn money to raise her children, she took on additional land and worked as a construction worker, but still could not afford to send all four children to school.
The eldest sister already had her own family, knowing the family situation, Hang quit school early to go to work to help her mother raise her two younger siblings. This September 19th is the anniversary of her husband's death, but Ms. Hanh is still on duty with her daughter in Hanoi. In the small house, the neighbors are preparing a simple meal on Ms. Hanh's behalf to remember the deceased.
Previously, on the evening of September 16, in the factory area of Hamlet 3, Ninh Hiep Commune, Gia Lam District (Hanoi), there was a power outage, so 6 workers staying there (working for a shop in Ninh Hiep fabric market) used a generator to sleep.
On the morning of September 19, when people discovered the bodies, all 6 workers were lying motionless. All the victims were taken to Duc Giang General Hospital (Long Bien District, Hanoi) for emergency treatment. Of these, 3 died, and 2 were the aforementioned siblings. The initial cause was determined by authorities to be suffocation.
