(Baonghean.vn) - Implementing the policy of converting crop structure, party member Lau Chong Tua in Truong Son village, Nam Can commune (Ky Son) has invested in economic development in the direction of livestock farming, bringing high income and sustainable poverty reduction.
In 1997, with his savings and the opium eradication support, Mr. Lau Chong Tua bought two pairs of breeding cows to raise and graze on the family's former farmland. After the herd of cows grew, he built a farm on the Tham Ma Tren mountain range, part of the Truong Son mountain range.
After many years of investing money and effort, his farm now has over 60 cows, generating an annual income of 100 to 150 million VND. From a poor household, Mr. Tua's family has risen to become one of the wealthiest households in Truong Son village...

Mr. Lau Chong Tua shared: "Raising buffalo and cows is slow but sure, hard work but highly effective economically. Even though I am old, I still have to continue doing it so that my children and grandchildren can learn from it and follow it, so that the villagers can know and follow my example, so I have to try hard, I have to raise cows and buffaloes...".
In addition, Mr. Tua also protected nearly 30 hectares of forest, both as a grazing area for over 40 goats, 10 buffaloes, and 30 pigs, and to protect the forest and water resources. In the forest area, he intercropped short-term crops such as ginger, taro, squash, and hybrid corn, which were used as animal feed, improved family meals, and had products to sell on the market, increasing his income from 50 to 70 million VND/year.

Not only knowing how to enrich his own family, Mr. Tua also cares about sharing experiences, helping and mobilizing other poor households in the village to follow. Thanks to Mr. Tua's good practices, many households in Truong Son village have learned how to raise and prevent diseases for livestock. Therefore, the livestock herd in the village has increasingly grown in both quantity and quality; small households raise from 10 to 15 animals, large households raise from 20 to 30 animals. Many households have converted ineffective crop areas to raise livestock in the direction of farms and ranches for high income. Thanks to that, people's lives have gradually stabilized and they have risen out of poverty. Up to now, the rate of poor and near-poor households in the village is only over 30%.
