'King of off-road' Mercedes-Benz G500 4x4² to be discontinued at the end of October
The "three-pointed star" car brand has just announced that the "outstanding" off-road vehicle Mercedes G500 4×4² will have to stop production at the end of October.
The departure of the G500 4×4² may not come as a huge surprise considering the next-generation G-Class is expected to arrive next year, with a fairly high ground clearance (up to 450mm), and the machine of this ultimate off-roader promises to be able to tackle any kind of terrain.
This is also the right time for off-road enthusiasts to choose the G-Class 6x6 version, which is also one of the most expensive models of the "three-pointed star" brand with a price of about 274,544 USD in the German market.
However, the "death" of the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² will make many people regret because the car has an impressive wading ability (about 1,000mm). The highlight in the design of the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² is the 22-inch alloy wheels (559mm) and large tires (up to 325/55) that are "off-road quality". Compared to the regular G-Class models, the G500 4×4² has a 299mm wider distance between the centers of the two coaxial wheels.

Yet another notable improvement of the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² is the suspension system. In terms of general structure, this system is not much different from the G63 6×6, but the axle length is shortened.
The suspension system is almost perfect and has been nicknamed “Hulk”, meaning giant. The reason for the name is because the power comes from 2 springs and shock absorbers installed at each wheel. The features on the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² are quite expanded to support the sporty driving mode. The dampers are electronically set to switch back and forth between sport mode and normal driving on the road.
The Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² is powered by a new generation V8 engine, commonly found in models such as the new AMG GT and C63 AMG. In general, this new generation V8 engine has a capacity of 4.0 liters, equipped with 2 additional turbochargers.
Thanks to this improvement, the engine size has been reduced and the power has been significantly increased. The maximum capacity of the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² reaches 422 horsepower, maximum torque reaches 610 Nm, the maximum speed can reach 210 km / h. Due to the weight of the car is up to 3,021 kg, so it is not possible to expect too much of an acceleration record from 0 to 100 km / h, but in general, in terms of acceleration or power, it is enough to stand shoulder to shoulder with any opponent.
