'King of Comedy' Xuan Hinh asks for early retirement
The actor wants to spend more time taking care of his family and children at the age of 57.
On the afternoon of May 22, Hanoi Cheo Theatre launched the Hanoi Saturday Night program series. The program includes ancient and modern Cheo plays, along with famous excerpts, and features the participation of many familiar stage faces.
The list of artists lacks Xuan Hinh - one of the veteran members of the Hanoi Cheo Theatre. People's Artist Thuy Mui - director of the theatre - said: "Xuan Hinh has submitted an application to the management agency for early retirement and is being reviewed. He has little chance of participating in acting with his colleagues this time. However, if in the future he still loves Cheo roles, we will always welcome him."

Meritorious Artist Xuan Hinh confirmed that he has submitted his retirement application. The actor said that he has devoted himself for more than 40 years and now needs time to take care of his family and recuperate in old age. "At this age, if I perform a lot, my wife and children will be sad. Now the old bamboo will have new shoots, don't worry. I also support the State's staff reduction, so asking to retire two or three years early is not a problem," he confided.
