After crushing their opponent Ximang Xuan Thanh Saigon four goals to nil in the match on the afternoon of February 23rd, Da Nang team SHB Da Nang won the 2012 National Super Cup.

The opening match of the new season started fast-pacedly from the very beginning. Just three minutes after referee Phung Dinh Dung's whistle blew, the Chi Lang stadium, with over 15,000 fans, erupted as Quoc Anh (number 32 - SHB Da Nang) opened the scoring, paving the way for a resounding victory for the home team with a close-range shot.

For the remainder of the first half, scoring opportunities and attacks on each other's goal were evenly distributed between the two teams. However, all of them were either shots that went over the crossbar or wide of the post.

In the second half, the match was almost entirely dominated by the players coached by Le Huynh Duc (SHB Da Nang).

In the 67th minute, when SHB Da Nang's prolific goalscorer Merlo (27-SHB Da Nang), who had just returned to the field after a long injury layoff, increased the score to two goals with a close-range shot, coach Lu Dinh Tuan's (Xuan Thanh Saigon Cement) players practically collapsed.

This was an opportunity for Quoc Anh (32 - SHB Da Nang) and David (6 - SHB Da Nang), a player recently recruited for the 2013 season, to increase the final score to a 4-goal lead in the 70th and 87th minutes.

Quoc Anh (32 - SHB Da Nang) was voted the best player of the match, receiving a prize of 5 million VND. SHB Da Nang received a plaque, medals, and a prize worth 200 million VND.

The 2012 National Football Super Cup featured several new aspects. For the first time, the tournament was co-organized with the Tien Phong newspaper by the Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company - VPF (authorized by the VFF). It was also the first time the match was held at Chi Lang Stadium (Da Nang), and neither team had ever won the Super Cup. This was the second consecutive year that Vietnam Gas Corporation (PV Gas) was the main sponsor of the tournament.

Tickets for the match are priced at two levels: 10,000 VND and 15,000 VND. All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to a charity fund and directly support the newly opened Da Nang Cancer Hospital (January 2013).
