After many years of agricultural products suffering from market price fluctuations, Tan Ky farmers have now been assured of growing sugarcane, especially with the support of the sugar factory, which always buys all of its products. Before, during and after Tet, the factory still operates the production line, operating continuously without stopping to ensure that the machines do not have to be re-operated and that raw sugarcane is purchased promptly.

At the end of the year, we returned to the fields of Van Long hamlet, Giai Xuan commune - a remote commune of Tan Ky district. The green sugarcane fields were bustling with the harvest season. The sugarcane field of Mr. Tran Khac Hai's family in Van Long hamlet, 1.2 hectares wide, had been carefully defoliated and is expected to yield 130 tons/ha this year; the sugarcane plants are 2.5m high and are expected to grow about 1m higher before reaching harvest time.

Mr. Vi Van Bien, an agricultural officer of Giai Xuan commune, said: “Thanks to planting the new KK3 variety from Thailand, intensive farming according to the factory's process, mechanical soil preparation and fertilization, and compliance with the planting density ratio... the sugarcane grew well in the second year. Despite unfavorable weather and drought, up to now, the KK3 sugarcane variety still yields about 130-140 tons/ha, the highest ever in Tan Ky district. Like Mr. Hai's family, harvesting 150 tons of sugarcane/ha, earning a profit of about 50 million VND/ha”.

In 2022, the sugarcane field of Mr. Hoang Van Chung's family in Van Long hamlet, Giai Xuan commune achieved a yield of about 130 tons/ha. With 3 hectares of sugarcane, he harvested more than 350 tons, after deducting the cost of hiring workers to cut, peel leaves, and weed, he still had a net profit of 100 million VND. The sugarcane variety Mr. Chung planted is also the KK3 variety from Thailand. Some other sugarcane growers in Van Long hamlet all have a sugarcane yield of 140 tons/ha...

According to Mr. Hoang Van Chung, to stabilize sugarcane output, he bought a large-capacity plow worth 1 billion VND to plow the land for his family, and also rent it to other families when needed. Currently, many families in Giai Xuan commune have bought plows, so the land preparation process is convenient, creating conditions for sugarcane to grow well, withstand drought, and produce high yields. Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company also requires farmers to plow the land according to the correct process before investing, so the mechanization of land preparation in Giai Xuan commune is becoming more and more professional.

The leader of Giai Xuan commune said: The commune has 871 hectares of sugarcane, of which about 400 hectares of sugarcane have a yield of 120-140 tons/ha. Sugarcane in Giai Xuan commune has been the main crop for many years and people have brought sugarcane from the hills to the fields, planting on low-yield rice land. With stable purchases, the people of Giai Xuan commune are loyal to the sugar factory; the commune also arranges agricultural officers to regularly stay in the fields to support the people.

It is known that KK3 sugarcane variety grows strongly, sprouts well, tillers strongly, is resistant to pests, retains roots well, rarely falls, does not flower, is resistant to flooding and salinity, has high effective plant density, large plant mass, early canopy ability, medium early maturity, wide adaptability; actual yield from 120.50 tons/ha to 143.35 tons/ha, high sugar content. Currently, with a yield of 140 tons/ha in Tan Ky, it shows that sugarcane cultivation in general is very effective here, farmers are more confident in sticking to the fields.

Currently, Song Con Sugar Factory has nearly 5,000 hectares of raw sugarcane, of which about 1,000 hectares have a yield of 100 tons or more; especially in the sugarcane areas of Nghia Dong, Ky Son, Giai Xuan, Tan Xuan... of Tan Ky district.
