(Baonghean.vn) - The 4th Economic-Defense Brigade is stationed in eight border communes of Ky Son and Que Phong districts. Not only are they steadfast at the nation's border, but the soldiers of the 4th Brigade are also working day and night with the local people to revitalize this most challenging area.

The 4th Economic-Defense Brigade, formerly the 4th Infantry Regiment under the Tri Thien Front Command, was established on April 26, 1973. After completing its wartime duties, the Brigade was assigned numerous tasks in various localities. In 2002, the Brigade was tasked with developing the economy while ensuring national defense and security in the western border region of Nghe An province. Currently, the Brigade's headquarters are located at the foot of Phu Xai Lai Leng peak, a place shrouded in clouds. In addition, the Brigade has production units scattered across eight communes in the two districts of Ky Son and Que Phong. |
| In addition to building and developing economic models for the local people, the soldiers of Regiment 4 also have the responsibility of maintaining border security. |
| The unit's base is spread across a remote and rugged border region with complex security situations, but thanks to effective patrol and community outreach efforts, the areas where Unit 4 is stationed have remained stable in terms of security and politics over the years. |
| Stationed at the foot of Phu Xai Lai Leng mountain, surrounded by clouds year-round and experiencing all four seasons in a single day, the officers and soldiers of Regiment 4 must live in harsh weather conditions. In the photo, soldiers of Regiment 4 are training and preparing for combat in the fog at midday in July. |
| The terrain is rugged and frequently cut off by flash floods and landslides. Almost every time a flash flood occurs, the roads used by local residents in the area are severed. During such times, officers and soldiers must work together to overcome the consequences. In the photo, soldiers from Regiment 4 are working to mitigate the aftermath of a flash flood in Nam Can, Ky Son. |
| Besides its political and defense duties, Regiment 4 is also tasked with developing economic models to help ethnic minority communities in western Nghe An province gradually escape poverty. In the photo, soldiers from Regiment 4 instruct local people on how to care for ginger plants at the foot of Phu Xai Lai Leng mountain. |
| At an altitude of around 2000 meters above sea level, the snow shan tea gardens are being expanded by Unit 4 to help the Mong ethnic people develop their crops. |
| Currently, the Mong people in Ky Son have successfully created a unique brand of Tuyet Shan tea in Nghe An province. |
| In each production team, the organic vegetable gardens thrive year-round. These also serve as small-scale models for local people to learn from and replicate. |
| At Unit 4, there is also a military-civilian medical station, which provides initial medical examination and treatment for people in the border region. |
| Officers from the 4th Economic-Defense Brigade regularly go down to the villages to work alongside the local people, disseminating legal information and combating illegal migration. |
In 2014, the unit was awarded the title of Hero in the resistance war against the US by the State. Building on this tradition, the officers and soldiers of the 4th Economic-Defense Regiment are now at the forefront of a new front, developing the economy and national defense, in conjunction with building new rural areas. In the photo, Colonel Nguyen Huy Hoang, Political Commissar of the 4th Economic-Defense Regiment, presides over the implementation of a coordinated program for building new rural areas in Phu Kha 2 village, Na Ngoi commune, Ky Son district. |
