Washington has an advantage in the US-China trade war
(Baonghean.vn) - Expert Curtis Chin from the Milken Institute, an economic research institute in the US, commented that China's strength may be overestimated, while the US economy is still in a healthy state, meaning that President Donald Trump has an advantage in the trade war between the two countries.

“We have to admit that China is probably not as strong as we initially thought,” Chin said in an interview with CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” “China is still figuring out how to deal with the current trade situation and how to ensure the stability of its domestic economy.
Meanwhile, the current situation is in President Trump's favor, and I think what really favors President Trump is the state of the US economy right now. In fact, the US economy is operating at full capacity."
According to this expert, economic strength will be “a help” for President Trump in case the trade situation deteriorates in the long term. Mr. Chin said he completely disagrees with the view that the White House’s policies are having the opposite effect.
This Milken Institute expert, who is also the US ambassador to the Asian Development Bank (ADB), said that Mr. Trump has affirmed the view that he was chosen as "president of the American people, not of the whole world".
“Right now we’re seeing record employment in the United States, not just a drop in unemployment, but people are getting back into the economic swing of things, thinking they can find a job if they start over,” Chin said. “I think that’s a positive message.”
Chin also said that Beijing was not as aggressive toward President Trump as expected. According to him, the decision from the Chinese leadership will ultimately have more impact, not just on the US.
“The way China acts in the future is not just about military action in the waters that it claims, this trade tension will lead to China starting to dump goods, those goods will no longer be sold in the United States or sold in the region. I think that is a significant concern for Asian companies and Southeast Asian companies that I do business with,” he said.
