Researchers at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands say their infrared wifi transmitter can transmit data 300 times faster than current systems, Reuters reported on August 14.

Each infrared beam is a data transmission channel using tfrequency of about 200 terahertz, thousands of times higher than the radio signal of current wifi systems, allowing increased transmission capacity."The achievement we achieved was 112 GB per second transfer,"Professor Ton Koonen said. This speed helps the deviceDownload three high quality movies in just one second.

The central antennas mounted on the ceiling emit multiple wavelengths in different directions toEnsure connectivity when users are on the go.Each electronic device connects to a separate wavelength emitted from an antenna, ensuring transmission speeds because capacity is not shared.

The method of emitting infrared beams to electronic devices using reflected radio signals saves energy. The security of the system is enhanced because the light does not penetrate walls. The team hopes to scale up this technology within the next five years.
