According to CNN, researchers believe that the June 27 attack used a Windows operating system vulnerability called EternalBlue to attack corporate networks. The WannaCry malware exploited the EternalBlue vulnerability, and is known as one of the NSA's cyber attack tools.
Previously, WikiLeaks provided data on EternalBlue and other cyber-attack programs, claiming that these programs were developed by the NSA and used by US special agencies.
On June 27, a major cyber attack using Petya malware targeted energy, telecommunications and financial companies in Russia and Ukraine, which then spread around the world. In May 2017, more than 150 countries were hit by WannaCry malware.
