WikiLeaks is offering a $20,000 reward for information about any destruction of Obama administration records.

According to RT (Russia), WikiLeaks has just announced a reward of 20,000 USD with the intention of preventing the government of US President Barack Obama from destroying important documents.

“We are offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest or exposure of any Obama administration official who destroyed important records,” WikiLeaks wrote on Twitter.

However, WikiLeaks did not make any specific accusations that the Obama administration had improperly destroyed the records.

Ten minutes before posting the reward, WikiLeaks called on system administrators working for President Obama to come forward. “System administrators, don’t let the White House destroy American history again. Copy the documents now and send them to WikiLeaks.”

Accompanying the call was a screenshot of a 2009 email from Obama administration deputy counsel Daniel Meltzer to then-White House deputy chief of staff James Messine, raising questions about the disappearance of two terabytes of electronic records from President Bill Clinton’s administration. The email was also forwarded to Hillary Clinton.

During last year’s White House race, WikiLeaks released more than 50,000 emails from John Podesta, Hillary Clinton’s former campaign chairman. The emails revealed rifts within the Democratic Party and President Obama’s knowledge of Clinton’s use of a private server while secretary of state, despite Obama’s claim that he only learned of the news through the press.

The US has accused Russia of hacking Mr Podesta's account and said the emails were used as a political tool to influence the US election. WikiLeaks and its founder Julian Assange have repeatedly denied the allegations.
