The tournament was held from June 27 to July 10. This is the oldest and most prestigious tournament in tennis, one of the four tournaments in the Grand Slam system.
Security checks will be tighter than at previous Wimbledon tournaments this year, with more screening for suspicious individuals and armed police on duty.
Tennis clubs advise people to check the tournament website before attending matches, and to expect bag and body searches before being allowed onto the court.
The security measures are said to be “comprehensive and proportionate” to the level of terrorist threat in the UK.
“Security measures are proportionate to the threat and are multi-layered, capable of responding to any situation,” a Wimbledon spokesman said.
Security measures have been stepped up following terrorist attacks in France and Belgium in the past year. Similar measures have been taken at sporting events around the world.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “A range of actions will be taken. Some will be visible to the public, while others will be carried out covertly by specialist armed units. Armed police have provided security support at tennis tournaments in the past, but this year they will be deployed in a more specialised way.”
