A commune on the border of Nghe An is determined to have no third child for three consecutive years.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of December 5, the Provincial Department of Population and Family Planning launched the "National Action Month on Population" in Ngoc Lam Commune - Thanh Chuong and signed a commitment to build a commune with no people giving birth to a third child or more.

This is the first commune in Nghe An to build a model of three consecutive years without anyone giving birth to a third or more child.

Ngoc Lam commune is located near the Vietnam - Laos border, with 100% of the population being ethnic minorities of Thai, Kho Mu, O Du. It is a resettlement commune for people from Huu Khuong, Huu Duong, Kim Tien, Luan Mai communes, Tuong Duong district.

In recent years, although the lives of the people in the commune still face many difficulties, this is a bright spot in the population work of Thanh Chuong district and the whole province. Every year, the number of people signing a commitment to implement the Population - Family Planning policy reaches from 90 to 95%, the birth rate of the third child or more has decreased, the rate of couples using modern contraceptive methods reaches more than 80%.

The number of villages in the whole commune that do not have a third or more child each year accounts for 80 to 85%. Of which, Cha Luan village has not had a third or more child for 9 years, Xieng Lam and Lap villages have not had a third or more child for 6 consecutive years.

In particular, in two consecutive years 2016 and 2017, no one in the commune had a third child. Economic life has had many positive changes when in the past two years the poverty rate in the commune has decreased from 67.8% to 55%.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of the "National Action Month on Population", Mr. Nguyen Ba Tan - Head of the Department of Population and Family Planning highly appreciated the efforts of the people and government of Ngoc Lam commune in recent years.

From the bright spot of Ngoc Lam commune, Thanh Chuong district will continue to expand so that population work can have positive changes. The main goal is to gradually reduce the birth rate, bring it to the replacement level and have many solutions to improve population quality; shift the population focus from family planning to population and development in the spirit of Resolution No. 21 - NQ/TW dated October 25, 2017 on population work in the new situation.
