Vietnamese snipers achieve high results at the International Army Games
In the first two competitions of round 1 of the "Sniper Frontier" competition of the 2019 Army Games organized by Russia from August 3-17, the Vietnam People's Army this year sent 8 teams to compete in 8 events within the framework of the 2019 Army Games, including tank racing, field kitchen, engineering vehicle crew, rescue unit, performing arts competition, chemical reconnaissance vehicle crew, medical support and sniper.
Exercise 1: Target shooting is an A3 sized paper with a 2cm black dot in the middle of the target. The target distance is from 300m to 600m. According to the shooting conditions, the shooters determine the distance and wind speed to shoot 2 bullets into the target within 1 minute. At the end of Exercise 1, the preliminary results show that the Vietnamese team is temporarily ranked 10th out of 21 participating teams.
Target shooting exercise 4 has a scoring circle with a distance of 300m to 500m, the shooter determines the distance and wind strength. Each shooter will shoot 10 bullets within 3 minutes, each round will be counted for points. At the end of exercise 2, the preliminary results show that the Vietnamese team is temporarily ranked 5th out of 21.
Overall, this is a good result for the Vietnamese sniper team in their first participation in the "shooter boundary" competition - an international military sports event.Army Games 2019This result is the basis for showing that we have the ability to go further in this year's sports festival with the sniper competition.
This result also reflects the use of familiar weapons that gives the Vietnamese sniper team a significant advantage. Because the SVD sniper rifle specified in the competition has been a popular equipment in the Vietnam People's Army since the years of resistance against the US.
The SVD is a semi-automatic sniper rifle chambered for 7.62x54mmR that has been in service since 1963. The weapon weighs 4.3 kg (without sight and magazine), has a total length of 1,225 mm, and a barrel length of 610 mm - depending on the version.
The gun uses a pneumatic, rotating bolt mechanism. It has a hammer firing mechanism and can be set to a safety. The accuracy of this gun is enhanced by machined grooves in the barrel.
The Dragunov SVD's firing range is about 800m, the longest range with a scope is 1,300m or only 1,200m with sights, and the magazine capacity is 10 rounds.
The standard SVD scope is usually the PSO-1 with an effective range of 1,300m, most effective from 600-1,300m depending on the weather and the shooter's skill. Photo Wikipedia
