Shooter Quang Huy brought the first Gold Medal for Vietnam at ASIAD 19
(Baonghean.vn) - Shooter Pham Quang Huy has excellently won the Gold Medal in the men's 10m air pistol event. This is also the first Gold Medal of Vietnam at the 19th ASIAD.
On the morning of September 28, the Vietnamese shooting team entered the competition in the men's 10m air pistol event, with the expectation of bringing the first Gold Medal to the Vietnamese sports delegation. At the end of the qualifying round, Pham Quang Huy entered the top 8, becoming the only shooter to qualify for the final. Phan Cong Minh (577 points) and Lai Cong Minh (573 points) ranked 10th and 25th respectively in the qualifying round.
This result helped the Vietnamese shooting team win the Bronze Medal in the men's 10m air pistol team event. India won the Gold Medal and the Silver Medal went to the host athletes, China.
Entering the final round, Pham Quang Huy performed very well, with 240.5 points, thereby winning the Gold Medal. The Silver Medal belonged to Korean shooter, Lee Wonho with 239.4 points.
This is also the men's 10m air pistol event in which shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh won a gold medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics (Brazil). The Vietnamese shooting "monument" has now switched to coaching, and he and Korean expert Park Chung Gun are directly instructing Pham Quang Huy.
Shooter Pham Quang Huy was born in 1996 in Hai Phong, the son of former shooter Pham Cao Son, a "monument" of Vietnamese shooting. In 2017, Quang Huy was recruited to the national team and is currently a student of 2016 Olympic champion Hoang Xuan Vinh.
Sharing after witnessing his student win the Gold Medal at the 19th ASIAD, coach Hoang Xuan Vinh could not help but be moved. He said that this achievement was the result of investment and attention from the industry, and the efforts of the athletes and the team's coaching staff.
