In a mountainous commune in Nghe An province, there are over 800 households raising frogs for meat.

For the past few years, the family of Ms. Luong Thi Hoa, in Nhang Tham village, Chau Cuong commune, Quy Hop district, has been utilizing their garden and pig pens to raise frogs.

Ms. Hoa said: "I find raising frogs much easier than raising other animals because they are less prone to disease. Their food consists of rice bran, cornmeal, mixed grain flour, small fish, etc. Changing the water and feeding them properly in the morning ensures they thrive. Raising frogs takes a relatively short time and yields 2 to 3 times more income than other livestock."

With technical guidance from the Farmers' Association, the family of Ms. Vi Thi Sam in Nhang village, Chau Cuong commune, has also utilized the area of ​​their fish pond, dividing it into sections on the water surface to raise frogs.

Ms. Sam shared: "Generally, raising frogs is quite easy. We feed them three times a day, and when they're almost ready for consumption, we only feed them twice a day. As for sales, people come to buy them directly from our house; we don't have to take them to the market yet."

Chau Cuong is a mountainous commune in Quy Hop district, specializing in agricultural production. Experience from frog-raising households shows that frogs can be raised at high densities, require little care, and have low investment costs; farmers only need to invest an initial capital of about 2-3 million VND for one batch of froglets.

Besides favorable investment capital and breeding conditions, commercial frog farming in Chau Cuong commune currently enjoys a stable market and relatively good prices, ranging from 80,000 to 120,000 VND/kg, contributing to poverty reduction in the area.

Mr. Vi Van Ty, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Chau Cuong commune, Quy Hop district, said: "Each farming season, lasting 3 months, yields an average income of about 20 million VND per household. Currently, the entire commune has over 800 households raising frogs, with the largest farms raising up to a thousand frogs. The initial success of the frog farming model implemented by the Farmers' Association of Chau Cuong commune, Quy Hop district, has opened up a new business opportunity for the people, contributing to sustainable poverty reduction and the development of new rural areas in the region."
