(Baonghean.vn) - Many farming households in Chau Cuong commune, Quy Hop district have taken advantage of their gardens and fish ponds to develop frog farming, bringing in a good income for their families.

For several years now, Ms. Luong Thi Hoa's family in Nhang Tham village, Chau Cuong commune, Quy Hop district has been using their garden and pig farm to raise frogs.

Ms. Hoa said: "I find raising frogs much easier than other animals because they are less susceptible to diseases. Frogs' food includes rice bran, corn flour, mixed cereal powder, small fish... Waking up early in the morning to change the water and feeding them enough is enough. The time to raise frogs is quite short and the income is 2 to 3 times higher than other livestock breeds."

With technical guidance from the Farmers' Association, Ms. Vi Thi Sam's family in Nhang village, Chau Cuong commune also took advantage of the fish pond area to enclose it into cells on the water surface to raise frogs.

Ms. Sam shared: “In general, raising frogs is quite easy. Feed them three times a day, and when they are about to become meat frogs, feed them only twice a day. As for the output, people come to buy them at home, without having to bring them to the market to sell.

Chau Cuong is a highland commune of Quy Hop district, specializing in agricultural production. Experience from frog-raising households shows that frogs can be raised at high density, with little care, low investment costs, and farmers only need to invest an initial capital of about 2 - 3 million VND for each release.

Mr. Vi Van Ty - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Chau Cuong Commune, Quy Hop District said: Every 3-month crop, each household earns an average of about 20 million VND. The whole commune currently has more than 800 households raising frogs, of which the largest household raises up to a thousand frogs.
