Whale carcass over 13m drifting in the sea

The whale carcass weighing over 10 tons was pulled ashore by fishermen in Kien Giang, the flesh was removed for cremation, and the skeleton was kept for worship.

Two fishing boats from An Son Commune, Kien Hai District (Kien Giang) discovered a whale carcass drifting near Ba Hon Nom area the previous afternoon while fishing at sea. They used a net to wrap the carcass and reported it to the local authorities.

Vice Chairman of An Son Commune People's Committee Nguyen Minh Tuan said that the whale carcass was more than 13 meters long and weighed over 10 tons and was in the process of decomposing.The fish carcass was pulled to Bai Ngu in Cu Tron island to separate the flesh for cremation.

The skeleton is expected to be brought to the local Nam Hai Ngu Than Temple for worship according to custom.

According to folk beliefs, whales are called the God of the South Sea by seafarers. Fishermen often worship whales because they protect and help them when they go to sea./.
