"Immediately after the return match between the Vietnam National Team and the Indonesia National Team, in the second qualifying round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Asia (evening of March 26, 2024), the Vietnam Football Federation and head coach Philippe Troussier met to discuss the working process as head coach of the Vietnam National Team and the Vietnam U23 Team.
At the meeting, the Vietnam Football Federation and the head coach of the Vietnam National Team - Mr. Philippe Troussier reached an agreement to terminate the contract from March 26, 2024.

Previously, it was reported that Mr. Troussier's salary in France was 60,000 USD/month (nearly 1.4 billion VND/month). The French coach still has 30 months left on his contract. Therefore, the compensation of the "White Witch" will be about 1.6 million USD (nearly 40 billion VND).
According toVTC News, the amount of compensation that the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) paid to coach Philippe Troussier was less than 40 billion VND. The French coach agreed to terminate the contract and accept a reasonable compensation, not the entire contract.
Meanwhile, the newspaperYouthsaid that VFF will not have to compensate the French coach any money.
Coach Troussier was appointed on March 1, 2023 and after 1 year, he left the Vietnam National Team with 10 losses and 4 wins.
Under coach Troussier, U22 Vietnam failed to win the SEA Games gold medal. In addition, the Vietnam team failed to advance past the group stage of the 2023 Asian Cup.
