Building a peaceful and friendly Vietnam-Laos border.
(Baonghean.vn) - On July 21, Military Region 4 held a joint conference to implement cooperation tasks between Military Region 4 and Division 4, Division 1, the Military Command of Vientiane Province, Xaysomboun Province, and the Military Commands of Lao provinces sharing a border with Military Region 4 in 2015.
Major General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Commander of Military Region 4, Vietnam People's Army, and Lieutenant Colonel Kham Nho Lin Som Phu, Commander of Division 4, Lao Army, co-chaired the conference.
At the conference, both sides highly appreciated the cooperative relationship between Military Region 4 and units and localities of Laos in the past period, reflecting the correct foreign policy views and guidelines set forth by the two Parties, two States and two Ministries of National Defense.

Over the past period, the 4th Military Region Command has directed its units to proactively and actively assist a number of Lao units and localities in border security, political infrastructure development, training and education of cadres, cooperation in building village clusters, investment in production and business, successful implementation of several projects, models, and initiatives, maintenance, repair, and restoration of weapons and technical equipment, and cooperation in exchange of delegations.
Lao units and localities that have established fraternal ties with agencies and units of Military Region 4 have actively coordinated, exchanged information, resolved situations, ensured the maintenance of border and domestic security stability, and assisted units of Military Region 4 in searching for, collecting, and repatriating 168 remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and military experts who died in Laos, as well as carrying out other tasks.
In the coming period, both sides agreed to continue coordinating closely to monitor and manage the situation in the area, promptly informing each other of any situation related to the subversive plots and tactics of hostile forces; cooperating in the fields of politics, military affairs, logistics, and technology; building forces; constructing several projects and models for increasing production; coordinating the organization of exchanges and delegations; building stable and developing clusters and villages; implementing the project to reinforce and renovate the national border marker system according to plan, building a truly peaceful, friendly, stable, and developing border between the two countries; and cooperating closely in the search, excavation, and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and military experts who died in Laos during various periods of war, bringing them back to Vietnam during the 2015-2016 dry season and subsequent years.
