Building Long Thanh airport: More than 23,000 billion VND for site clearance

The total investment for the entire Long Thanh International Airport project is 336,630 billion VND, of which the compensation for site clearance alone is more than 23,000 billion VND.

On the afternoon of June 1, authorized by the Prime Minister, Minister of Transport Truong Quang Nghia presented a Proposal on separating the compensation, support, and resettlement contents into component projects to implement the Long Thanh International Airport Project.

This is to speed up the project's implementation progress, according to the National Assembly's Economic Committee, which is a specific mechanism of the project and falls under the National Assembly's decision-making authority.

The Long Thanh International Airport project was approved by the 13th National Assembly in Resolution No. 94, with a total investment and capital source for the entire project of VND 336,630 billion (equivalent to USD 16.03 billion, applying the unit price of 2014).

It is expected that 5,614.65 hectares will be reclaimed for the project, 614.65 hectares more than the area approved by the 13th National Assembly, including 5,000 hectares of land for airport construction, the rest is land for resettlement areas and cemeteries. Of this, the area for airport infrastructure construction is 2,750 hectares, the area for the defense fund is 1,050 hectares, and the area for auxiliary items and aviation industry, other commercial works is 1,200 hectares, not including resettlement areas and cemeteries.

According to the Ministry of Transport, in the areas that must be cleared, land used by households and individuals is nearly 3,000 hectares (59.4% of the area); land used by agencies and organizations is about 2,000 hectares (38.5%) and land for traffic, rivers and streams is about more than 100 hectares.

The land area for the construction of 2 resettlement areas and the cemetery is rubber garden land managed by Dong Nai Rubber Corporation. The total number of households and individuals whose land was recovered was 4,730 households with about 15,000 people and 26 organizations.

The Ministry of Transport said that, with the latest updated unit price, the total cost of implementing this component project is about 23,000 billion VND./.
