PAL-V (Netherlands), the world's first company to produce commercial flying cars, has just put the Liberty on sale for £425,000 (equivalent to 12 billion VND). The car will start being delivered to customers from the end of 2018.

The Dutch manufacturer said the Liberty was fully compliant with current aviation safety regulations and called it a “significant moment in the history of world civil aviation”.

The first version to go on sale is the Liberty Sport, which starts at $399,000. It’s a stripped-down version of the Pioneer Edition, but buyers still get a flight deck and carbon fiber bodywork.

The Liberty Pioneer Edition starts at $599,000 before taxes. That price includes a flight lesson and personalization options. Only 90 will be sold, half of which will be sold in Europe.

Liberty has three wheels and a retractable top propeller. It is a twin-engine flying car. The Rotax engine transmits power through the wheels, the top propeller shaft and the rear propeller provide thrust.

The suspension is lowered, the cockpit has enough room for two people. It takes about 5-10 minutes to switch from flight mode to running or vice versa. The rotor blades are automatically deployed, but the tail blades must be deployed manually.

You need a certificate to fly and can only take off from approved locations, PAL-V says the surrounding space needs to be 90-200m and free of obstacles. The ideal location is a small runway or open land.

The manufacturer says engine noise is comparable to that of a small propeller plane and “much less” than a helicopter.

Powering the flying car is a 99 horsepower engine, helping the car reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 9 seconds. Fuel consumption is about 7.5 liters/100 km, operating distance is 1,314 km.

When flying, Liberty can reach a maximum altitude of 3,500 m thanks to its 197 horsepower engine, with a maximum speed of 180 km/h. The flight range is about 500 km.

Liberty is assembled in the Netherlands, parts are manufactured in different companies.

“After years of hard work and overcoming technical challenges, our team has succeeded in creating an advanced flying car that complies with current safety standards issued by the world's aviation regulatory agencies,” said Robert Dingemanse, CEO of PAL-V.
