Is it mandatory for motorbikes to have 2 rearview mirrors?
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tham in Nghi Xuan commune, Vinh city asked: According to current regulations, are motorbikes required to have 2 rearview mirrors when participating in traffic?
Reply:
Pursuant to Point a, Clause 1, Article 14 of Decree 168/2024/ND-CP, it is stipulated as follows:
Penalties and deduction of driving license points for drivers of motorbikes, mopeds, and other similar vehicles to motorbikes who violate regulations on vehicle conditions when participating in traffic.

1. A fine of VND 400,000 to VND 600,000 shall be imposed for one of the following violations:
a) Driving a vehicle without a horn; license plate light; brake light; or without a rearview mirror on the driver's left side or without a functional one;
...
Accordingly, one of the conditions for motorbikes to participate in traffic is to have enough rearview mirrors and other equipment and devices to ensure visibility for the driver.
Motorcyclists who do not have a left rearview mirror or have one that is not functional will be fined from 400,000 VND to 600,000 VND.
Thus, the law only regulates penalties for motorcyclists who do not have a left rearview mirror or have one that is not effective, but there are no regulations on penalties for motorcyclists who do not have a right rearview mirror.
Therefore, motorcyclists only need to have a rearview mirror on the left side of the driver to be allowed to participate in traffic.
