Toyota cars start supporting Apple Carplay on Iphone
As one of the brands that is still hesitant to support Apple CarPlay, Toyota recently announced that it will deploy this technology on its models from the 2019 generation.
Accordingly, in addition to the Avalon 2019 (which was launched at the North American Auto Show taking place in Detroit), some Lexus lines will also integrate Apple CarPlay, based on a 9-inch touchscreen and cable connection. However, the Japanese brand did not provide any information about the ability to support Android Auto - which also has a similar feature and is often supported in parallel on other car lines of other brands.
In addition to CarPlay, Toyota vehicles will also support a number of remote control features via smartwatches and Amazon Alexa, such as allowing you to start the engine, lock and unlock the doors, and view the remaining fuel level. To use CarPlay, Toyota vehicles will have to be equipped with the Enform 2.0 or Entune 3.0 infotainment system. This also means that some 2018 Camry and Sienna models may also support CarPlay with the appropriate software update.
CarPlay support is a notable step forward for Toyota, as the company announced in 2015 that it would focus on using its own platform, rather than entrusting the infotainment system to the tech giants. However, perhaps the high demand from consumers (especially in 2016 and onwards) has forced the company to change its perspective. However, implementing CarPlay on some low-cost cars (which do not have high-end infotainment systems) is still a big challenge.
