Promoting local advantages
In late 2024, the road leading to the communeQuynh Doi(Quynh Luu), crowded with people passing by. Cars lined up, stopping in front of tourist attractions right after the gate leading to the village, for tourists to visit. This was also the occasion for the local government to hold a ceremony to announce the decision of the Provincial People's Committee on recognizing Quynh Doi village as a tourist destination.
“This is a big event for us, after a lot of efforts from both the government and the people,” Mr. Ho Sy Hung, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quynh Doi Commune, said, unable to hide his joy. This time, in addition to the art programs, the government also organized an exhibition and introduced tourism products and OCOP products with strong local characteristics.
Quynh Doi has long been known as the "Village of Scholars", famous for the saying "Bac Ha has Hanh Thien - Hoan Dien has Quynh Doi". According to statistics from the leaders of Quynh Doi commune, from 1378 to 1918 when the Chinese examination system was abolished, Quynh village had 734 people passing the bachelor's and bachelor's exams. Quynh Doi is just a small countryside, currently with only about 5,000 households, but it has produced 5 people who were members of the Party Central Committee, including 2 members of the Politburo. In addition, Quynh Doi also has 9 people who were National Assembly delegates, 31 Provincial Party Committee members, of which 11 people held the position of Provincial Party Committee Secretary, or Deputy Secretary of the Regional Party Committee, Provincial Party Committee...
According to Mr. Ho Sy Hung, the idea of doing tourism was raised by the Party Committee of the commune in the previous term, but it was not until this term that it was included in the core task. “By 2023, with the support of a Quynh Doi native living in Hanoi, our commune decided to launch tours to promote the land, people, and history of the village. Especially to promote the studious spirit of the village in particular and Nghe An in general,” said Mr. Hung.
At the end of 2023, the tour "Go Fish Village - behind the halo" was officially launched. In addition to the skit "The scholar Nghe and the wooden fish", right at the gate of Quynh Doi village, when visitors arrive, they can also watch the skit "The person has returned here". This is a skit recreating the scene in 1903, when Uncle Ho and his brother were led by Mr. Nguyen Sinh Sac, visited and stayed in Quynh Doi village for a while... The actors in the skits are all villagers.
Not only can visitors watch these skits, but they can also visit a series of other relics with more than 30 destinations when coming to Quynh Doi village. Specifically, after passing through the village gate, the groups will visit relics such as Ho Tung Mau's tomb, Ho Xuan Huong's world cultural celebrity stele, Cu Chinh Lan's heroic martyr relief, and the National Historical Relics of Than Temple, Ho Sy Tu's church, the provincial historical relic where Uncle Ho and his father visited Quynh Doi village; Duong family church, where Mr. Duong Van Khai, the first teacher, brought letters to teach Quynh village's children, along with a number of production sites such as fish sauce making, incense, bonsai village, etc.
Both the government and the people join hands
According to the leader of the People's Committee of Quynh Doi commune, to develop tourism, there will be no success without the cooperation of local people as well as children living far from home. "We mobilize all the funds for construction and renovation of destinations from social sources," said Mr. Ho Sy Hung. In addition to material contributions, Quynh Doi people are also highly aware of environmental sanitation. This is also the first commune in Nghe An to ban free-range dogs for many years.
Accordingly, when tourism was not yet focused, every time tourists visited Quynh Doi commune, there was a feature that not many people noticed, that is, in addition to the clean and beautiful village roads and alleys, there were no more stray dogs. Since 2018, Quynh Doi commune has established 2 patrol teams, including police and commune officials to catch stray dogs. Members of this team go to check on village roads, when they discover stray dogs, they use dog-catching rackets to bring them to the commune police headquarters for handling. These teams are equipped with dog-catching rackets, and often patrol early in the morning and late in the afternoon, because at that time dogs defecate a lot on the streets. In addition to patrolling, the commune also takes advantage of hundreds of cameras of the people as well as the government to fine violations. Therefore, in recent years, the sight of stray dogs in this commune has almost disappeared.
In addition to no more stray dogs, Quynh Doi commune also has a special feature: all of the more than 1,500 houses here are assigned specific house numbers. The blue sign is attached to the front gate, with the serial number above and the village name, street name and commune name below. At first glance, it looks no different from a neighborhood. This is also the first commune in Nghe An to assign house numbers to households.
The house numbering was implemented simultaneously in the area 4 years ago. This came from the opinions of people far from home and tourists. Every time they visited Quynh Doi, they had difficulty finding the houses of acquaintances to visit, having to ask for directions many times. At that time, Quynh Doi commune had just completed the first model rural area of the province, so we implemented it right away. During the implementation process, we did not encounter any objections from the people, everyone welcomed it. Because the cost for this is not large, but it brings a lot of convenience.

Since the tour was launched, the Quynh Doi Tourism Operations Center has welcomed 49 groups with 2,109 visitors. In addition, there are dozens of groups of tourists coming to visit and learn about the historical traditions at the relics in the area.
“It can be said that this is a breakthrough step of the locality, daring to think and dare to do. Timely responding to the thoughts, aspirations and needs to enjoy the spiritual and cultural life of the people, tourists from all over the world and abroad. It is a unit honored by the Vietnam Tourism Association as one of the 12 most unique typical products in 2023”, the leader of the People's Committee of Quynh Doi commune shared.
