Watch US paratroopers march loudly near the Russian border
About 160 US and Latvian paratroopers, along with many armored vehicles, just paraded through towns near the Russian border.
The parade, which took place on February 7 and 8, was part of an exercise called Bayonet Vanguard, which took place in all Baltic countries with the aim of enhancing coordination between US and Latvian soldiers.
The final destination of the parade was the city of Rezekne, just 63km from the Russian border. The US military was seen marching, while also showing off military equipment to the local population.
Local children were allowed to climb into US military tanks and armored vehicles, some even tried to carry shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missile systems.
The US paratroopers were at one point only 60km from the Russian border. |
Latvia, along with Estonia and Lithuania, are among the countries that have seen NATO increase its military presence since Moscow's annexation of Crimea from Ukraine.
The Bayonet Vanguard exercise, along with a number of NATO military build-ups in Eastern Europe, is being heralded as a demonstration of America's security commitment to its allies amid tensions with Russia.
However, Moscow has consistently portrayed NATO's deployment as a threat, warning of the potential for dangerous consequences.
