Mr. Luong Van An (born in 1980), in Khe Ngau village, Xa Luong commune (Tuong Duong) is a skilled player and maker of xi xo, knowledgeable about this musical instrument, said: “The bamboo used to make this musical instrument must be old and not infested with termites. Bamboo is usually chosen around February and March, at this time the bamboo will not be infested with termites, while in July and August the bamboo is good but infested with termites. After collecting bamboo from the forest, the first step is to thinly strip the bamboo tube to create resonance for the xixo. Mr. An also noted that when peeling the bamboo, it must not be too thin or too thick, because if it is too thin, the tube will easily break when stretched, and if it is too thick, the resonance will be poor and the sound will not be good.
