Chu Van Sang and Ms. Nguyen Thi A. (born 1973) used to be husband and wife. In 2013, Sang and Ms. A. divorced but they still live together in the same house.

Around July 2020, when he learned that Ms. A. was selling a piece of private land, Sang asked for 10 million VND to spend, but his ex-wife did not agree. A conflict arose between the two.

At 7:30 a.m. on August 12, 2020, Ms. A. came home from work and brought some chicken soup to reheat. While waiting for the chicken soup to cool, she went to the back garden.

During this time, thinking back to asking his ex-wife for money and not giving it to him, Sang was angry and had the idea of ​​killing Ms. A. Sang went to Vinh Ga market area to buy a pack of rat poison.

When he got home, Sang put rat poison in Ms. A's chicken soup pot. While putting the poison in, he spread some powder around the pot, so he used a towel to wipe it off. At the same time, Ms. A came in. Because she was suspicious, she asked Sang, but he denied doing anything wrong.

Suspicious, Ms. A. did not eat the chicken soup and reported the incident to the police. Chu Van Sang then turned himself in to the police.

At the trial, the defendant admitted to committing the crime as charged in the indictment. The defendant stated that because he could not get money from his ex-wife, he acted in a moment of anger.

The victim attending the trial asked for a reduced sentence for the defendant and did not request any further compensation.

The jury determined that the defendant's murder was motivated by a despicable motive. The victim's survival was beyond the defendant's subjective wishes.
