Eliminate all forms of discrimination against women

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has just approved a plan to implement the Recommendations of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.

The main task of the Plan is to review, research, amend, supplement and promulgate legal documents and policies related to gender equality, for the advancement of women, ensuring the rights of women and girls in accordance with the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW Convention).

In addition, strengthen communication, education, and mobilization of the whole society to raise awareness of gender equality, for the advancement of women, ensuring the rights of women and girls; integrate gender equality work, for the advancement of women, ensuring the rights of women and girls in strategies, programs, plans, projects of ministries, branches and localities; improve and enhance the capacity of staff working on gender equality and women's advancement at the central and local levels.

Ministries, branches and localities clearly define tasks, responsibilities and roadmap for implementing the recommendations of the CEDAW Committee according to the requirements of the Plan to ensure progress and effectiveness.

In particular, the Ministry of Justice reviews and proposes amendments to legal regulations on the development and implementation of village covenants and conventions to contribute to eliminating all forms of discrimination against women. The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs studies and reviews and amends the policy regulations on prohibition of discrimination in the Labor Code to comply with the Constitution and international commitments on gender equality; strengthens inspection and examination of the implementation of laws on gender equality in labor and employment.

The Ministry of Health is responsible for promoting training and communication on reproductive health and family planning; improving the quality of maternal and child health care services. The Ministry of Education and Training effectively implements the Action Plan on Gender Equality in the education and training sector for the period 2016 - 2020, including: Revising educational materials, reducing illiteracy and dropout rates of ethnic minority girls through providing bilingual education.

The Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Public Security to direct police at all levels to coordinate with relevant agencies and organizations in early detection, intervention and handling of gender-based violence cases, illegal marriage brokerage and protection of victims; research on the scale, extent and root causes of trafficking of women and girls for the purpose of labor and sexual exploitation...
