Stirring up a potato weighing nearly 70 kg in Nghe An

Mr. Dau Duc Thin (67 years old) said that his family had just dug up a potato - commonly known as Khoai Lo by locals - about 0.8 m high, 0.9 m in diameter, and weighing nearly 70 kg. The potato's trunk had many branches spreading out like a tree trunk.

When digging, when he knew the potato was big, he had to ask 2 more people in the neighborhood to help. 3 people dug 3 corners, carefully and meticulously to avoid breaking the potato branches. It took 3 people more than 1 hour to dig and carry the potato up.

After bringing the potato into the yard, because the potato branches were not of even height, he had to use bricks to balance them. Many people in the neighborhood came to watch when they heard the news.

According to Mr. Thin, his wife got the seeds from an acquaintance and planted them in December of the previous year, a year ago. The potatoes were planted on the site of an old well that had been filled in. Normally, the potatoes grow quite large, weighing around 10 kg, but growing a potato weighing nearly 70 kg is rare.

Mr. Thin shared: “My family has been growing sweet potatoes for a long time, but this is the first time we have grown such a large potato. When we brought the potato up, not only me but everyone around us was surprised.”

Sweet potato is a variety of potato that produces large tubers, similar in shape to sweet potato but has a completely different taste and aroma.

Mr. Thin added: “Potatoes can be processed into many dishes: boiled, cooked in soup, cooked in sweet soup… This potato is big, I will cut it and share it with my brothers and neighbors, each family has a piece to enjoy for fun.
